what is the difference between an auto ecu and a manual ecu.

The auto ECU controls the TCU also (transmission control unit) which in turn controls the transmission. The manual ECU won't work in an Auto but I *believe* an auto ecu should work in a manual (don't quote me).

Cool thanks for the info. I bid on a eprom on ebay before I realized it was for a auto. Hopefully it will work.

they are the exact same, except the auto is mapped for smaller injectors (360cc) and slightly higher fuel pressure

the tcu works completely on its own

dont believe me, well we run a manual ecu in our auto with 450 cc injectors and its no difference

I am going to be putting a keydiver chip in it so that will work, right?

Uhm, no :) The ECU is tied TCU :) Mappings are different yeah, I forgot, but I also forgot the 1G has a 13G on the auto, But VERY MUCH is the ECU tied to the TCU. Hence the reason when you put an AEM in your car you have to set up that control. And from what I read on there it's not fully needed in the 1G or 2G. So whatever controls it has going to the TCU must be minor BS anyway. Regardless there's still something there. (PS AEM is still baffled *why* it's connected to the TCU LOL).

I know why, cause the people who designed DSM wanted to f**K with our heads. :D I mean come one we have a motor that can handle 400hp to 500hp on a stock bottom end but a tranny, that can bearly hold 200hp.

yes it will work.... thats what I did. I used a 93 auto ecu and got the keydriver chip for a 92 manual.

I'm thought the ecu doesnt actually send anything to the tcu. I thought the tcu just intercepted some signals, like rpm, tps, and such? the auto ecu has no aditional wires, so how could it actually control the tcu?

Not sure if it's a "control" thing. Like I said we know that there is some kind of communication but it works without any special setup. Could just be it jabbering to the ECU about RPM etc. *shrug* Who knows, just know it is connected. If it works cool :)

Our trans isn't as bad as you think it is :)
