So here's the deal: I just bought my first DSM, a 90 TSi AWD with some decent mods.
-50trim with TO4B-style housing (2.75" inlet 2" outlet)
-550's
-AFC
-Pocketlogger, (fucking awesome!)
-full 3"
-FMIC and 2.5" pipes
-255 with stock FPR:rolleyes:

Okay, so I bought the car in Iowa and at WOT at the top of third, the car only knocked about 5-7 counts and had good timing, (at least 17degrees at the top). I figure this is a pretty decent tune for 17psi, but he also gets 93 there. So I bring the car back to CO and take it out to do some more tuning. I figure the car would be really rich because the air is so thin here, but the first pull on the highway started knocking by 4K and quickly rose by 6K so I stopped the pull. What the fuck? It was tuned great at sea level, why is it knocking here? I added like 3% at above 4K and that reduced some knock, I added some more and it kept getting lower counts.

Why would I be having to add so much extra fuel here in CO? Is it because 91 is just shit?

At first I thought it was knocking from too much fuel, but then I figured not because the O2 value never goes above .9 volts at WOT and it is only has a couple thousand miles on the new sensor.

I turned the boost down to 16psi and it pulls like a MOFO, but I want to run at least 17-18psi on pump if I can.

For you with 550's and a 2G MAS, what are some of your corrections on the AFC? I think mine look high, but all my sensors tell me it is still lean. The fuel trims are all maxed out at 118% too, ('90), how could this be?

I added a good amount of fuel at low throttle across the board to try and get trims in spec, but it had no affect on them in 25 minutes of around town driving. Do the trims need a really long time to change on 1Gs, it is a '90.

I finally am a legit DSMer! Thanks to all you guys, I finally have a money pit of my own!

Another question, when are you guys with 50trim compressors seing 17psi? Mine doesn't fully spool up here until about 4200RPM in 3rd, maybe 4K in 4th. I don't think the compression is bad because the car makes positive boost in any gear above 20% throttle even at lower RPMs.

How do you all recomend me tune the car? Should I just set the boost as low as the spring will let me and tune it at low boost and slowly increase it? It is an internal gate, but I have set it as low as 14psi without creeping.

How can I get my fuel trims back in spec, there is never any knock below WOT but the low, mid, and high trims are all maxed at 118%, even when the O2 trim sit at 100% for a while.

Oh, how hard is it to change the valve guide seals? I know you can do it without taking off the head, so I figure it can be done fairly quickly.

Does anyone here have random vibrations in their exhuast at certain RPMs/throttle? Cruising on the highway, the exhuast rattles like a bitch between about 72-78mph in 5th. It is so bad it makes it feel like a bent or unbalanced rim, but I know that's not the case because a downshift to 4th or accelerating up to 90mph makes the car drive really smooth. I know it is because there is no flex section, but is there anything I can do besides have Jack weld me in a section of braded steel?

Thanks guys!

P.S. : Anyone that can't handle the lag of a 50trim sized turbo, complains about the pedal pressure of the ACT2600, or thinks atmospheric dumps are too loud is a big pussy...:)

How can I show photos, I already uploaded a couple on the gallery here, but I can't figure out how to present them in a post.

I've been thinking that the vibration at 3500-4000RPM in high gears is maybe because he might have removed the balance shafts. He never mensioned anything about them, but it would be an obvious explaination. How can I tell if they are removed?

Congratulations man, sometimes you'll wonder what you were thinkin buyin one, but drivin a DSM makes all the hassle worthwhile....

pull you battery cable off for 10 minutes and let the ecu reset.... then drive around and watch your trims. Sometimes they wont come down on their own if they are all maxed out, at least that what some people have said.

Thanks, I'll try that tonight.

Anyone else have some tips?

Oh, my hose from the BOV to the intake crushed itself (which doesn't make sense considering it was fine at low altitude in Iowa where it got a -20 vaccuum at idle and only like -15 here, then it crushed). What kind of hose should I use to replace this?

Thanks everybody!

Does someone else have input on any of these qestions?

Thanks!

replace the hose with a reinforced fuel line. Shouldn't do that again.

The problem is that the oultlet on the 1G BOV is smaller than the inlet on the mandrel 3" intake pipe I have, sealing is a problem without flexable material.

The other problem is that it isn't a straight path. This is why it likes to collaps under extreme vaccuum, the crease is already started because the hose has to bend. Maybe I could weld a 45 degree plumbing bend off the BOV and then it would be straight. Then I was thinking about using hose clamped with those screw clamps used on IC piping that makes a full seal all the way around.

Is this a good idea?

Any other ideas for my other problems?
