Read carefully. It's not just bikes, but "imports" as well. I agree with the law, just not the way they choose to enforce it, nor the way they single people out for being on certain roads. I am definately boycotting Colorado springs business since I live up here in denver.

gimme a f'ing break!!! you can't hand out those without a DB meter. i want to go drive down those streets making as much noise as i can and then show them my "50 state legal" noise sticker.....they might not like the whole no cat idea though. but seriously, those that get tickets should contact SEMA. i don't go to the springs as is, but now i'm gonna hate it from 70 miles away too....

They passed a law that says they can get away with it, and until someone stands up to them, they'll keep doing it. Someone needs to get the ACLU involved.

This is why I don't drive the talon to the springs anymore. Those that have been around the car know its not quiet.

This reminds me of when I got a noise violation in my Jeep in High School.
The violation wasn't exhaust noise related (but it could have been, He He).
It had been raining for days so I had my hard top on. My 10" speakers would resonate like crazy in there when I had the doors off, like the day I got pulled over.
This cop turned around and followed me and then pulled me over. He gave me a $200 noise violation ticket. I went to court and these kids with multiple theft charges in front of me got slaps on the wrist. I, on the other hand, received the full $200 ticket.
Maybe those speakers are why I'm deaf now??............... nah.

This is why i don't take the GSX out.
It's also why I limit when/where I take my car.

Well I think most of it has to deal with all the kids I hear tearing up and down the streets out here by the house. Its much worse at night.

I guess I can agree with that. Some of the stupid kids around here run up and down the street too at night.

Seeing as I used to ride with the sportbikes in the Springs and I live off of Union, I know exactly why this shit is happening. If you ride a bike in the Springs and meet up at the Shell, you then decide to ride downtown to Tejon as the article says....but on the way you HAUL ASS down Union trying to hit triple digits....a bunch of sportbikes doing that at once is loud and I hear them constantly when I'm at home.
So instead, why don't they just pull over the ppl doing 100 mph down Union or stunting down Academy or Tejon or whatever? Not some modified exhaust driver doing the speed limit and obeying all the other laws.

Take the big ass tip off and you will probably be fine. I have been driving around in my beater Taurus with NO exhaust for months with no issues and it’s ear piercingly loud! They are looking for the chrome and SS tips. My brothers GVR4 has a pretty loud system too, and he never gets pulled over either, because his 3” straight through muffler is hidden and ‘stock looking’. Hide the evidence and you will probably be fine.
I think if you ride an 'import' bike, you're screwed no matter what. My bike is the dorkiest and quietest bike you have even seen (92 Suzuki GSX1100G). The gearbox makes more noise than the stock (never touched) dual chrome muffler exhaust, and I have been pulled over. I must say though that most Harleys ‘here’ are annoying. It seems like a lot of them have NO mufflers whatsoever and are seriously loud. I’d say a good 99% of the crotch rockets out there with aftermarket pipes are a lot quieter and don’t bother me as much. I could understand why people want the noise down though. I hate hearing those Harleys at night...

Longmont is pulling the same aggressive noise enforcement crap as well. Stopping imports with after market exhausts and ignoring Mustangs that will rattle windows on main street.

They are obviously trying to suppress cruising on Friday, Saturday nights in down town Longmont.
They are also using the state modified exhaust law on the citations.

I thought the state law just stated you had to have "some dort of muffling device" and that it can't go passed 90db at 1m. My dad is an acustical architecht and I mess with his db meter all the time......every person here has an exhaust that is louder than 90db at 1m.
The trick is to fight the ticket, if they don't have the meter, like Jason said, the ticket is bullshit. Also, all db readings are measured at a standard of 1 meter......I can gaurentee an officer would measure at a closer distance than that. This also makes the ticket invalid if you point that out in court.
This law is basicall like the tint laws, no one carries the tester necessary to write a valid ticket. Unless you enpower them and don't stand up for yourself, it seems like you could fight the ticket.
