K, in a nut shell, I get hella knock, it's mostly on the lower rpm's when I am just barely touching the gas. like 30 mph 3rd gear and just tap the gas, 4 or 5 degrees, let off the gas goes away, I could sit there and just keep on tapping it, knock, no knock, knock no knock, etc etc. BUT on the same token if I WOT it don't get it, well, until higher rpm's like 6 or so, and that just maybe the amount of boost I am running. 1 thought is the sensor (only a couple months old) went out, cause I had it in too tight (will get a new one friday, had to order). What might be relivent to know, 6 bolt in a 97 w/ dsmlink, 90 cas, 780cc inj PTE. I changed my knock to 3500 from factory of 2272 and now it just starts later. UGH, any other thoughts??? cause I am sure once I get the new knock sensor, it'll do the same thing, that's just my luck. I did run a 12.9 with 10 degree's of knock........... lol, not a good idea

Check your base timing.

Dave............. it's me, Joe, from MAC. And w/o a timming light how, with jus the ign on DSMLINK show's 5* at idle 11ish............

You need a timing light to check and set the base timing. Don't use the dsmlink to "view" the timing at idle.
To set the timing do the following:
1.) Hook up the timing light.
2.) In the Misc panel of the dsmlink click grn diag and gnd timing. They will grey out and the car will run really rough.
3.) On the crank pully there is a white mark. Each time the light flashes it will show this mark next to whatever timing its runing indicated by the scale next to it.
4.) Adjust the cam angle sensor until the timing is between 5 and 7 degrees.
5.) When your done click gnd timing and gnd diag again and the car will run normally.
I bet you this solves your knock issue. If you are only seeing 5^ at idle via the dsmlink then your base is off. Idle should be 10-12 roughly but that is determined by how the car is running.

After you set that make sure your knock sensor isn't loose.

Getting my injectors balanced showed I had one that was always running about 15% leaner than the rest. This coupled with a head rebuild did wonders for my knock retard I would see.

This is more than an injector problem. Watching his dsmlink log go from 17 degrees of timing advance to -6 isn't pretty.

after I loosened up the knock sensor from A** torque tight, to hand tight, it did loosen up a lil, tightened it back down again, and it doesn't do the low rpm knock, now I only get about 3* at about 5500-6000 but that is at 21 psi (or so my 100 yr old HKS manual gauge says) I guess I need to lower the boost so I can start adding some timming................ HOW THE HECK CAN SOME PEOPLE RUN 25-30 PSI being only at 20 or lower that'll suck!!! you'd "think" with a built engine I could run almost anything I wanted, oh well............. Dave, do you still think I should get the new knock sensor? pretend you are broke like me and $50 is a lot!

I'd make sure your base timing is right first. Then worry about the knock sensor.

PS Dave, I don't think I said it too clear earlier............. with only the Ignition turned on dsmlink shows 5* perfect........... then when I start the car and idle it's up in the double digits usually, give or take it bounces around alot

Like I said don't use the dsmlink to see what timing the base is at. Use a timing light and follow the instructions above.

roger dodger............. I WANT 25PSI and 20* advance........... ugh!!! OH, question, when dsmlink shows (for example) 15* timming and 3* knock, does that mean I did have 15 and if I wouldn't have had the knock I would have had 18 or did I only have 12*????

The timing value the dsmlink shows is what the motor is currently running off of at WOT. So if you have 15 degrees of timing and it also shows 3 degrees of knock that means you would have had 18 degrees of timing. So then you pull that 3 degrees out or richen up the mixture depending on the a/f ratio.

That 5* is a guess of where it should be. DSMLink ASSUMES that your base timing is set to 5. it doesn't KNOW it. I'd definately check it like Dave suggests.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, thank you, was wondering why it said that, so hell for all I know it could be set at 100 (lol) and then when I see 15 that actually 105.............OK, so, once I do check it, and get it straight let's say I am actually at 7, can I change dsmlink? or would I not need too?

I don't think you can. Just remember what the offset is.

Once you set the base timing on the engine itself and turn off the two functions you turned on you will be fine.
