I took my car to Satan today and they quoted me an astronomical price for some suspension related problems so I was wondering if anyone would be willing to give me a hand. Struts and replacing boots mainly. The wheel bearing I'm gonna try and get taken care of myself. I'll be happy to pay whomever for their time of course. -Drew

Not sure what boots are, but Hoff and I put on new shocks and springs on all four corners of my Talon in like an hour. I basically assembled the corners and he helped muscle them in. The hardest / most tedious part is using the stupid spring compressors on the stock springs cuz they're so long. Its pretty easy.

So does this mean you're willing to help? :D The boot I'm referring to is the rack and pinion boot. According to the dealer, I need new compression arms, rear struts (tokico illuminas), LF and LR wheel bearings and they want to take apart the engine to see where the oil leak is coming from. The boot I may get done there and do everything else in my garage. Let me know when/if you have some time. Thanks! -Drew

No, I don't have time. The only free time I get all week is on the weekends and that's very precious to me.
The rear shocks are two nuts on the top and one bolt on the bottom. It'll take you a half hour tops. As for the other stuff, if you can get the axle out of the hub, replacing the wheel bearing isn't hard...replace the whole hub with something from the junkyard to save money. Steering boots can be done for $12 from autozone when you do the hubs.
Oils leaks and I don't get along.

Yep. Funny thing is the LR wheel bearing was done last week and it's all fubared now. Getting it off was an ordeal that I really don't want to go through but will if I have to. As for the suspension, can you leave the upper and lower control arms on and not have to do anything with them?

Ah, nm. I don't think the rear has control arms. Haha

If you're talking about the rear suspension, you remove the two nuts from inside the hatch area (if this is a 2G) and then unbolt the one bolt holding the shock on (if this is a 2G), and that's it. Since you said tokico illuminas and they only make those for 2Gs, I think this is a safe assumption.
For the front, I find its easier to unbolt some other suspension stuff to get more play in the hub to have room....but I don't think its necessary. Regardless its like two bolts to undo the rear trailing arm.

Its generally the same for 1st gens also, well atleast the galant. I just did it this afternoon. Two on the top, one on the bottom for the rear, Havent done the front yet because I have to modify my springs.

Right on. So it's pretty straight-forward huh? Any pointers or trouble spots you had? I gotta start work on my wheel bearing right now. Satan said some of the bolts had stripped which worries me and it's grinding on something. 3000 miles on the wheel bearing and it's already shot. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

I had a problem with the lower bolts on my 3000gt, but thought I might have problems with the galant since its in way worse shape then the GT. To my suprise I just hit them with the impact and they came right off. I have already had the fronts off to get the halfshafts out when I did my clutch, so those should be easy
