View Full Version : new DSM
Hey, my name's Anne, I'm a senior at CSU this year. I just bought a second gen. gs-t. I've spent the last week de-ricing and learning "DSM," there are a TON of things that I didn't know, but I think I'm learning fairly quickly, lots of online searching, lots of questions for friends. :) It's pretty much stock, upgrading the turbo soon though, it's going to be great. I'm already madly in love with my car, and I'm so excited to learn more about it.

Congrats on the purchase. I just picked up a '94 AWD to go along with my Evolution.

Welcome aboard Anne!
You said you're going to probably upgrade the turbo pretty soon... anything else? I'm assuming (and hoping) you'll be doing quite a few other things before the turbo swap to really take advantage of it.
If not, you'll have a ton of restrictions everywhere else (intake, exhaust, fuel, etc.), plus probably heat soak issues and your car might actually run slower and/or rougher. But you're probably aware of that already.
Hopefully you've got a map of what you want to do and in the appropriate order so that you're always taking a step forward without taking two steps back.
I'm sure you've seen these links, but just in case you haven't, here are a few tried and true upgrade paths, along with a bit of commentary:

A nice little guide within our own club site to some of the various turbos out there, put together by Hoffman:

If you want to locate a part or know exactly what's under that hood (just click on a quadrant of the map or mouse over and click on the part you're curious about):

VFAQ, also known as the DSM Bible:

And a bit of light-hearted humor that tends to be true more often than we DSMers probably want to admit:

If you can swing it, you should try to come down for the HP Competition on Sept. 24th at MAC. Don't worry about dynoing your car, just come down to meet some of us and get a firsthand look of what DSMs are capable of.
I think you'll find, and maybe are already aware of the fact that this site tends to be a notch or two above your average DSM site. As such, it's a very valuable resource that I hope you'll take advantage of. Simply put a little thought into your questions and show that you've done a little research before posing your question and people here tend to really help out.
At any rate, I've rambled long enough, so once again, welcome aboard! :)

WWOOOOWWWW... you guys are awesome! So much for getting any classwork or studying done today, I've got DSM reading to do!
http://www.dsmtuners.com/tuning-guide/2gturbo/stage1power.php this is the mod. guide that I've been using, I'm on step 10. Although it's not on that list, I'm going to do an FMIC too and the 97 bumper, because they're hott.
I would love to go to the HP comp. and see what's up, so yah, I'll probably be there.
Thanks again for all of the great links, it's great! :D

Sell it, sell it now because it will never end ;)
I am on my seventh DSM now and they are great cars. I blew the engine on my last talon and ended up parting it out and bought an Acura to drive around. Well, that lasted 6 months and last Saturday I traded the Legend for Ryan Burnett's '91 TSI.
Enjoy the car and have fun with mods. Definitely follow the previous advice given on mapping out the mods for what you want out of the car. You will save a lot of money in the end by doing things right the first time.
