View Full Version : Will these VOLK wheels fit on a 1G?

I lucked out and scored some 17" VOLK SF Winning 2 piece Forged wheels. The thing is there is no offset marked on the wheels and I can't find specs anywhere on the net because there so rare. I think there 17x7.5" with at least a +38 offset. I want to install them on my AWD 1G with 235/45zr17 tires. Will they fit without the tires rubbing?
Here is a pic if it will load

From the research I'm doing, everything I have says they'll fit no problem if in fact that is the right size/offset. To support that, I've had my Evolution 17x8 +38 w/ 235/45's on there with no problem. They do protrude somewhat on the front but I've got a very mundane alignment on my 1G currently. With a more aggressive alignment they'll likely 'tuck' a little more.

Are you sure they are "real" Volks?

Normally you will find a set of stickers on the inside with size, offset, and serial number data.

Here's a picture of Scott Gray's car. He mentions that he had to roll the fenders a little..

Sorry for the size.

Hal I'm about 98% positive they are real, they have VOLK Rays stamped on the bottom and forged stamped below it, but I don't see any stickers anywhere.

Nice EVO Justin

I did some poking around and I'm willing to bet the ones you got are knock offs.

This is what a Volk SF winning looks like

Did the person you purchased them from say when he originally got them? Because currently they only come in Mercury Silver, Gold, RMC, Gun Metal

These are a older model they no longer sell, if you dont believe there VOLKS you can come take a look for yourself. They have RAYS VOLK imprinted on the back of the wheel with forged underneath and made in Japan next to that, I dont think there is more then 2 or 3 forged wheel Mfg. in the world. That model above is the newer model and is only offered in 18" and up, mine are 17".

Just because it's cast in doesn't mean they're genuine.

The HKS SSQV BOV knockoff actually has the HKS logo cast into the outer shroud. The genuine BOV has a sticker instead of the cast logo.

Only way to tell for sure is to e-mail Volk directly with a few pictures of the labelling, finish color, casting/forging marks and possible lot numbers.

Well you guys can think what you want, I'm not going to send pics to VOLK just to verify there real, they look real there forged 2 piece that's good enough for me. I dont know of any knock of wheel companies claiming they make copys of VOLKs do any of you??

Mirage

That's the thing. No one knows what company makes knockoffs. They just do.

Do you know who makes the HKS manifold and BOV knockoffs? I sure as hell don't. All I know is that there are fakes out there of almost every major brand name.

Actually, yes.

There was group buy about 1 1/2 years ago for Volks at a killer price.

Turns out they were fakes.

Well bottom line from what I'm seeing they will fit and yes you will probably want to get the fenders rolled a few mm. Weather not they are forged could probably be told only by a Rays manufacturer, like Marcus said. It's up to you if you want to figure that out. But I would be pretty pissed if I acquired *forged* rims and they bent on a typical colorado pot hole. Personally I would go the extra mile or two, if you don't care at least they look good!

You guys are ridiculous, YOu have to mock and complain, wine, about every little detail. I got these for a good price, whether there real or not I don't know. Do I really care? yes but not enough to take pics and send them to VOLK, they look real enough to me and that's what matters. I can take a pic and send it to VOLK and see if they respond with an answer? But why the FUCK should I? just to make you guys happy?? I'm happy with the way they are, if I were to re-sell them then maybe I would verify they are real. But I'm not going to be driving around the street stoping at every intersection to argue with some stupid DSMer on whether or not I have real Volks on my car. 75% of You guys won't see them anyways because you all just sit on this forum and talk shit, none of you actually go out and race events. See you fools at the track if you EVER go. Oh and they do have a serial number engraved in each wheel.

Where are some pics of these so called fakes, they look anything like the one I posted?

I have no idea where any photos can be found.

References to fake volks can be found @ http://www.miata.net/faq/wheel_weights.html

One way to make sure, weigh your wheels and compare them to what Rays says they should weigh.

Here we are just trying to look out for your interests in whether they're real or fake and you get your panties in a wad.

Funny thing about your comment about keyboard warriors.

Several of the people you are criticising have done MUCH more than what you've done or have accomplished MUCH more than you have or ever will.

We're looking out for the "Little Guy".

Cool down a little. I'll be out at Bandion Sunday being a "Forum browser and Shit Talker".

Anyone know who I can contact at Rays to verify the weight and to see if these are actually REAL. Like I said these wheels havent been made in over 2yrs and the specs on the new Winning Volk wheels are not the same. These are 17" the one's listed on RAYS japan site are 18" and 19" and they don't look the same.

Little guy is that what I am Marcus? I don't know of any little guys running consistant 12s in a DSM this year. Shit I don't know of more then 6 dsms even running 12s or faster this year besides you, Dave, and Scott.

Well I guess My little car and my little self will be out racing on Sunday, maybe I'll nod at you in the pits.

First you accuse people of mocking and complaining when the only question asked was are YOU sure they were real and then you ask those same people for help in validating the authenticity of your wheels.

No one here cares that you bought them, but we don't want to see someone get screwed over by not getting what they paid for.

Like I said, they *should* have had a series of stickers in the inside giving you all of the information you were looking for.

The lack of stickers, raises a flag. It doesn't mean they are "fakes", but it certainly increases the odds quite a bit.

The US distributor is Macken Industries, you might try contact them after you get your panties untwisted.

Wow Keith. You always have some negative stuff to say on this board. Oh, don't forget Tara runs 12's, Andy(slingshot) now has a few 12's under his belt and need I mention a few of the galant guys, seth, and a handful(read 8-15) codsm members, and various other guys who may not participate in the local dsm scene actively.

Also a few of the 3SI guys as well. Need I go on. You have more in your car than I did, and I put down as much as you did on a measly VPC tune on the rollers. I also have a mostly stock(motor wise) car that is just a turbo upgrade away from passing you in track and dyno numbers.

So come off your pedistal about your little 1G. There are phenominal guys here with great knowledge and information. Just ask Robert about the guys here. We just expressed concerns about the quality of your new wheels.

uh, I'd say they're real, they got "Volk Racing" cast into the front of the wheel. That would be a huge copyright infringement and only the Chinese would be crazy enough to do that. Those fake HKS bovs say SSQV on them but they dont say HKS.

Hal

If you're going to go thru the trouble to cast a fake wheel, adding the wording into the mold is piece of cake.

People selling the fakes, don't care about copyrights.

If that wheel pictured is one of the ones Kieth bought, there are two things that raise a flag.

1st, is the lack of labels, the other is the center caps.

Very few people actually buy center caps for Volks because they go for about $60 EACH for the "real deal".

Again, not proof they are fake and I'm not saying they are. Just things that raise some flags.

So I found these on the net, they look the same as mine?
http://www.upgrademotoring.com/wheels/winning.htm
But differient colors, do these look fake too?

Oh and my center caps are plastic and say RAYS going across them and there gold colored.
