Hi there, I have a 90' Talon TSi that I just bought yesterday morning and man am I happy with this thing hehehe pulls nicely and stuff. Upgrades are Apex-i N1 turboback exhaust system, TurboXS manual boost controller, Greddy turbo timer, Blitz BOV, gauge pillar (boost, oil pressure and air to fuel ratio gauges).... looking into adding more stuff down the road but have to do a little research first, so just thought I'd drop in and say what's up and introduce myself ... here are some pics of the car

haha yea dude not as straight as I thought, it seems the car MIGHT have a rod knock but not entirely sure though, there's this slight knocking that comes and goes and argh it was just my fear when I bought the car.... :( .... I'm gonna give Jack in the springs a call to see for how much he'll rebuild it cause I don't trust that slight knocking.

rebuilds arent too bad. Im in the middle of one right now. im going to get it back together right the first time and do the upgrades I want to do now. That way the motor will no longer be a concern for me. Good luck I hope its nothing serious for you.

yea well it turns out to be just a slight lifter knock and stuff, it takes a while for the oil pressure to stabilize itself out but I'm not sure if it just needs a quick tune here and there or if it's a oil pump problem or something...

Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong but lifter tick in our cars seems to be quite common. When I run 15w-50 Mobile 1 synthetic I don't here it anymore but when you run lighter oil it's louder. Upgraded lifters are definitely a priority for me though.

lifter tick does sometimes tend to be a problem. Synthetic may help but I would never switch a higher mileage(100k) engine over to synthetic. Thats just me. The lifter tick does typically require rebuilding the head(or I would recommend it since you already have the head off)

LOL! Yea I ran out of money so I couldn't afford to get the lifters, rockers or the port and polish but I still plan on it.

Every time you stop for gas you should check your oil after this just to make sure your not burning or leaking too much oil. What is your oil pressure gauge doing? Where does your coolant temp read? Maybe check to make sure your coolant isn't milky just to make sure you don't have a crack in the head.
What does everybody recommend for winter useage? I think 10W-30 is too light. 10W-40?

Well I checked the oil this morning and it was normal... I did notice a few drops of oil in my garage when I pulled out but nothing BIG so maybe the pan needs to be tightened and well when I first turn on the car in the morning or pretty much whenever the oil pressure gauge reads 40 psi and after I run it without spooling for a while it comes back to normal to about 10-15 psi without spooling.... my temp gauge reads a bit below the middle point.... I'm gonna check my coolant right now, hopefully is not a blown headgasket or anything...

Like they say if it doesn't leak then your out of fluid but check anyways. As far as oil pressure, I really don't know cause I don't have an after market oil pressure gauge. But as long as you have pressure I suppose it's a good thing. LOL Sounds like your operating temp is go and if your oil level is good I doubt you have a blown head gasket or anything. I'm not an expert by any means so get as much advise as you can or do a search if you have any doubts.

Your oil pressure will be high on a cold start because of the viscosity of the oil.
Once your car is warmed up all the way, you should have 5-15 psi at idle, and about 50-75 at cruise on the highway.
If it is very inconsisant your pressure bypass valve could be sticking in the bore.
o and I run 10w-30 Mobile1 year round.

If you're looking for someone to get work done to the car, talk to most of the guys on rm and also codsm.org mailing list. Most all of us are whores and will do anything for enough money, that is unless you happen to find the lazy ones such as myself who pay everyone to do it cause I just don't wanna. Also, good lookin 1g. Could use some tint though. Let me know if you're interested. A guy in longmont will do 5%(I know shh) for $130 lifetime warrenty and all. I've had him do 4 of my cars and if I ever had a problem he'd replace it no questions asked.
Welcome to the addiction... oh I mean forum.

Yes, it is common for our cars to have lifter tick. Keeping clean oil has always helped me combat the problem and other obvious things.
cuztomrollaz98,
An easy upgrade would be putting the heat shield back on and decreasing the under hood temps by 20-30*F. When I briefly took my heat shield off, I experienced an increase of 25*F intake temps.
