I got my 92 stolen last night! Three Brown people Broke into my TSI last night destroying my Ignition with a screwdriver and hammer, trying to steal my car! it was about 12:00pm I was just falling asleep when I herd my car alarm go off 4 about 3 sec. I didn't think anything about it tell my neighbor called me saying their is 3 kids beating the inside of my car! so I ran out side with my Gun, catching two of them inside my DSM I yeld and shot in the air! scaring the shit out of the kids telling them to get the f out of my car and get on the ground well one did, but the other ran too a gold thunderbird that the 3 person was in. They fled! When the cops came less then two min. from that they chased the car and got the one of them the other got away! this all happened in Broomfield, in the brodlands, the one night i left the car out side. I got my car back, but its broke ( not a surprise) um and got no sleep!! any ways thats my story.

Thanks for the space, Brodie

So you got two of them, that is awesome! Your way better off than most of the people who have had their car stolen/broken into recently. You didn't get in any trouble for firing off a round? I doubt it but I wonder if you can legally shot someone for stealing your car? That would be a good law, I would think that would drastically reduce auto theft if people knew that they could be shot legally.

Still unfortunate that they F'd up your car but at least they didn't get away with anything.

WTF did you just say?

Firing your gun in city limits is bad, holding someone at gun point is also illegal. Your lucky you didnt get cited and taken to jail as well.

On the plus side, hopefully you scared the shit out of those punks. Damn thieve these days are out of control.

PS - Tonight at 9pm on Fox31 there is going to be a little segment on import theft and TC Performance Shop getting broken into and the cops doing nothing about it.

Colorado does have the "Make My Day Law." However, it normally only applies if someone breaks into your house. You are justified in actually shooting a person if you feel "endangered," something not all that hard to convince police, or a judge of.

I've included a direct quote right off the County Sheriffs of Colorado website (sorry it's long, but the page it was on scrolled on about 25 times this length and I had to really search just to find this):

"18-1-704.5 Use Of Deadly Physical Force Against An Intruder (“Make My Day law”)

1. The general assembly hereby recognizes that the citizens of Colorado have a right to expect absolute safety within their own homes.

2. Notwithstanding the provisions of section 18-1-704, any occupant of a dwelling is justified in using any degree of physical force, including deadly physical force, against another person when that other person has made an unlawful entry into the dwelling, and when the occupant has a reasonable belief that such other person has committed a crime in the dwelling in addition to the uninvited entry, or is committing or intends to commit a crime against a person or property in addition to the uninvited entry, and when the occupant reasonably believes that such other person might use any physical force, no matter how slight, against any occupant.

3. Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including deadly physical force, in accordance with the provisions or subsection (2) of this section shall be immune from criminal prosecution for the use of such force.

4. Any occupant of a dwelling using physical force, including deadly physical force, in accordance with the provisions of subsection (2) of this section shall be immune from any civil liability for injuries or death resulting from the use of such force.

18-1-705 Use Of Physical Force In Defense Of Premises

A person in possession or control of any building, realty, or other premises, or a person who is licensed or privileged to be thereon, is justified in using reasonable and appropriate physical force upon another person when and to the extent that it is reasonably necessary to prevent or terminate what he reasonably believes to be the commission or attempted commission of an unlawful trespass by the other person in or upon the building, realty, or premises. However, he may use deadly force only in defense of himself or another as described in section 18-1-704, or when he reasonably believes it necessary to prevent what he reasonably believes to be an attempt by the trespasser to commit first degree arson.

18-1-706 Use of Physical Force in Defense of Property

A person is justified in using reasonably and appropriate physical force upon another person when and to the extent that he reasonably believes it necessary to prevent what he reasonably believes to be an attempt by the other person to commit theft, criminal mischief, or criminal tampering involving property, but he may use deadly physical force under these circumstances only in defense of himself or another as described in section 18-1-704."

So sounds to me like you could have shot them in the legs if you wanted as long as you didn't kill them!

I'm not sure who mentioned this, but I definately agree that it should be legal to shoot someone for trying to steel a car. I hate people who steal. Sorry to hear about that.

I do have some good news maybe. While going to lunch today this chick asked me what year my car was, and I told her, and she said cool. She offered to sell her car for $500. It's not a turbo or anything, but the interior looks pretty good. It is an Eclipse, 1992. She just had it painted, and had some body parts put on. Like a new hood, and mirror. Some other stuff too, but I can't remember. It is a 5 speed too. Well if you want to go and check it out. I'm off work tomorrow, give me a call and well go check it out. I hope this helps SOMEONE :D . (303) 424-4731. E-mail wstanion@aol.com

Theres plenty of ways to prove to a judge that you feel endangered. I would make sure to scare the living shit out of anybody that stole my car, and make sure they "fell down really good" while they were getting out of their car, maybe they hit their mouth on the pavement and lost a few teeth if you know what I mean.

man, that really sucks sorry to hear. I live over in Thornton so it's kinda freaky to hear about theft right down the street. You would think with all the new traffic cops in Broomfield the crime rate would be lower, guess not

This sucks and I bet the cops won't do sh!t about it. I hear it's expensive but maybe a consealed weapons permit isn't such a bad idea!

If that gold Thunderbird was even remotly driving in your direction you could/should have unloaded on it!

There is a place that will get you your concealed carry permit for like $150. It is over on 38th and just like 2 buildings east of Harlan St. They will let you borrow a pistol to train with, so you don't even have to buy one right off the bat. There is also one on Wadsworth on like 32nd or something. It's on the east side of the street. Not sure what they charge but, I hope that helps someone that is really interested in doing something about it.

By the way, What exactly is wrong with the car that those shit holes had torn up. If you need some seats, I am changing the interior of my car today, so the basic grey seats that are coming out are just going to sit in my garage. They need to be shampoo'd, but they are in fairly good condition though. Let me know if you want them. I'll just give them to you.

Oh yeah, and by the way. Cops don't give a rats ass about "crime." All they really care about are giving tickets to speeders. It really torques my nuts to think about the phrase, "to serve and protect." It's a load of shit. I hate cops  . Anyhow, thanks for letting me vent.

Concealed carry permits cost $152 for a 5 year permit in El Paso County, so I'm assuming it's about the same up in Denver. You'll need a handgun safety class as well. Some places may offer both.

No, you are not legally allowed to shoot someone breaking into your car. You weren't allowed to shoot up in the air in that situation either, so you're lucky you didn't get charged with illegal discharge. You are not even allowed to pull a gun on a thief breaking into your car. You will get charged with felony menacing and the thief will walk with the lesser misdemeanor theft charge.

Please, learn the laws if you plan on getting a CCW or even owning a gun for home protection.
