Overheating...different problem

I have a 92 Talon. It recently has started overheating at hight rpm. It never goes to red, but if i keep pushing it, it will most likely sit right above red. I have started babying it as much as I can, but once I hit the highway, my only solution is to crank the heater, good thing its not summer.....Anyways, I am looking for a good starting place. The coolant levels check out alright. It might be the thermostat, it was sticking a bit a month or so ago, then just started working fine. Thanks for any help

In order of price (cheapest first):

1. Make sure you have adequate airflow to your radiator.

2. Feel your hoses. They will have different temperatures if your radiator is plugged or your thermostat is stuck closed.

3. Remove your thermostat and put it in boiling water on the stove to see if it opens.

4. Replace your thermostat if it doesn't.

5. Leave the thermostat out, remove the belts from the crankshaft and power steering pulley, use the belt and a drill to spin your water pump to see if the coolant circulates.

6. If it doesn't, make sure your radiator isn't plugged. If it does, buy a better water temperature gauge or borrow someone's datalogger to peep what the ECU is seeing (different sensors).

7. If you're still running hot, borrow an electric pressure gauge and put it in your cooling system.

8. If your cooling system pressure is affected by your boost levels replace your head gasket.

Did you just change or add alot of coolant recently? If so you might air that is in the system that is getting superheated and giving you the high temps.
