View Full Version : 2G Tranny in a 1G

Okay, here is the best information I was able to find when searching.

The 2G tranny going in is from a '95 and it is going into a '91 with 4-bolt rear. I am not sure if I have the 22 spline or 23, but if it is the 22, then I will also get the '95 t-case.

2g trans (if you get a 97+, make sure you use the tcase that goes with it, they changed the final drive ratio in the trans, and changed the ratio of the tcase to match)

2g "starter plate" (the plate that bolts to the motor behind the flywheel), they moved the location of the starter slightly.

2g longer slave cyl bolts, self explanitory.

You will have to do some tweaking of the shifter input shaft and cables as its a little differnet on the 2g trans.

The tranny mount works just fine. Unbolt all the brackets from the 2g trans, and remove all the studs from it and youve got the same two threaded bolt holes for the 1g mount to bolt right up to.

There are no axle issues with an awd, thats only fwd where the 2g uses bigger inner splies.

Is there anything else I should be aware of? How difficult is the tweaking of the shifter input shaft and cables? Anything else I should be aware of? It sounds pretty straight forward to me.

Ideas, advice, or suggestions?

Thanks

Nope, it's pretty much a bolt in.

I just wanted some affirmation on the information that I have found so far on the slave cylinder.

I have the 2G slave cylinder that came on the 95 tranny, that is in much better shape than my 1G unit. There should be no issues in using the newer slave cylinder, correct. I was told they are basically the same and that there would be no issues.

I believe the bleed valve points in a different direction, but other than that it should work just fine.

What are the advantages of doing this swap? Something in the 2G tranny that's better or do you just need a new tranny?

Sorry Mike I forgot to post. But, yes the 2G will bolt right up. That is actually all I will buy for 1G's now, because of where the bleeder is. It is so much easier to use. Everything is the same though. I even use 2G stainless lines now as well. It replaces the whole line not just the little short section of rubber.

I got a good deal on a Shep Stage 4. I believe the 2G is a little beefier but they are all made of glass.

Was this off of Ray Faatz's 95 Talon by chance?

They were running a 6 bolt in that Talon so to put it into a 1st gen would be cake right? I don't know what else would be different.

I am going to be doing a write up, but there are a few things that need to be done.

Speedo Sensor
Tranny mounts
Make sure you have the right t-case
2G upper shield for starter
Adjust the two pieces where the shifter cables mount (by bending or replacing with 1G units)

I think that is it. I guess I will know for sure within the next week.
