Sad trip to the alignment shop just now. Both of my front wheel bearings are bad. I have been told that they can be rebuilt/repacked. Is this true? I couldn't really find any info on that searching several DSM sites. If they HAVE to be completely replaced, because of the press issue, I would probably just pay the alignment shop the $140 in labor they wanted to do both. So what are my options?

They're extremely easy to do yourself as long as your axle will come out of them. They have to be replaced, they cannot be repacked. Take off your tire and caliper/rotor. Unbolt your lower arms and take off the axle nut. Pop the axle out and take out the 4 bolts holding the wheel hub in. It will probably be stuck so you'll need a BFH to pound it out. Be careful not to damage your ABS sensor. Put the new one in, bolt it up and reassemble. Cake walk.

You can use a press but is not a have to have. I have done 3 of these on my cars. The key to it is a slide hammer. If you can get ahold of a slide hammer it will be real easy. If you need help and have tools I can give you a hand. Then maybe we can deal on those springs too. ;)

I've always just found it easier to get a new spindle with a bearing in it from the boneyard. OEM bearings are usually good for a couple 100k. $10 w/bearing no hassle. If you are new to the job, it doesn't hurt work on a junker first either. I always learn how not to fix mine that way :D
