View Full Version : Sheptrans Vs. Team Rip

I've finally gotten the parts i need for my car, it turns out it wasnt 5th that went out it was the transfer case, which in turn broke the viscous coupling in the transmission. I ordered a sheptrans stage 1 to put in the car. Everything isnt said and done yet and i wanted to ask what anybody thought about team rip?

The stage 1 transmission from both seems to be almost exactly the same, both come with a 6 month warranty, have all the same parts. Ive heard good things about both companies but thought i would ask your guys 2 cents on this decision?

As always, thanks for your time.

They are both great transmissions. Shep has more drag experience, and Ripple has more road/rally experience. I run a TRE trans and couldn't be happier. I know some people with Shep transmissions and they're also quite happy. I'd say you couldn't go wrong with either one as long as you spec it out for what you intend to do with it.

If all you are getting is a "Stage 1" tranny you are better off having Jack rebuild yours. He uses the same or better parts and is about 1K less. You can reach him at 719-243-5305.

Also- I have personally had great dealings with Shep, and horrible dealings with TRE- specifically lying about shipping dates, what they had in stock, etc. In the past TRE was the only place to get some parts, but now I can get pretty much everything through Shep no problem. If I was choosing between the two, I would pick Shep hands down just from the level of service I (and others) have recieved.

I agree with fusion 100% about JACK........ EXPECIALLY since you are only goin stage I. Now, as to your question, I went with TRE...... LOVE IT!!!! I have just heard more issues, returns with Shep...... I think it is just an attention to detail thing, I personally think TRE pays more attention to detail, but if you get a good one from either would probally be about the same. I also think that TRE's are a bit cheaper.

I would (did) go with Jack over both, since he is local. That way, if any problems occur, you don't have to unbolt it and ship it off again, and then wait for it to get shipped back.

The local connection is invaluable, in my honest opinion. And his prices are better too.

I wouldn't deal with TRE.

Hard to get a hold of, ships late, lies about the status... search "talk" & "toonrz"

Shep gets my vote.

Jack does good work, he's local, can do what you need

TRE does awesome work, hard to get in touch, most expensive and slowest

Not sure if "Jack" is just a guy that does tranny's or whatever else but can I get a location and name of shop, if he works in a shop.

Thanks in advance,
Darius

I would give him a call for a faster response, I talked to him last night about a stroker engine and he said he doesn't get on the site very often.
719-243-5305. IAT is the name of the shop.

Jack is a very hard person to get ahold of. I would most definitely go with him with what you are looking at getting. You can either leave him a message and wait till he calls back or just keep calling like his message says. Do plan on not having it back real fast because he is usually swamped with work.

Jack is definately a great mechanic, and he is very knowledgable too. If you have questions for him, I'm sure he can answer anything you throw at him. He explained all kinds of stuff for me. He had my car back pretty quick, all-though all he did was clutch stuff. Give him a call. I'm going back to him for a lot more stuff once I get some money saved, including a new tranny.

I would persoanlly go with Shep. I have done so in the past and would not think twice about it again. While some may have had good experiences with TRE, I know of someone who has nothing but problems. Good luck.

Now that I have been going through crap with Jack there is no way in hell you should go that way. Jack will not honor warranties so go with shep.

Jack has mentioned his reasons, so this thread will NOT be turned into a Jack bashing thread, END OF STORY. The question was about TRE or Shep, leave it on topic or I will close it.

There is a difference between bashing and stating a fact. Just because you are friends with him does not mean that you should be able to censor the truth. I stated the truth, nothing more nothing less.

I would recommend anyone that needs transmission or engine work or anything DSM related to go to Jack. He has worked on my car plenty of times and I never had a problem great guy willing to bend over backwards for most people. I understand that ba109296 and Jack had/have issue's but doesnt every business have atleast one dissatisfied customer for one reason or another? There is no reason why anyone local should not go to him. Just my opinion.

Thread closed for now, learn to stay on topic. It *might* get re-opened later should one of the other admins feel it needed but I will NOT have this turn into a flame thread, and vendor bashing is NOT allowed on RMDSM. This thread is about Shep and TRE transmissions. We can't seem to keep on the topic of them. If you wish to discuss the merits of all transmissions open a new thread and be civil.
