View Full Version : Dumb 3/S Question- Pilot Bearing?

My 6g72 FSM shows a ball bearing inserted into the back of the crank before the flywheel. I don't remember removing one from the engine i'm putting together. Is there a pilot ball bearing? If so, does anyone have the Part #? :)

I have worked on every year and model 3S and I have yet to see a bearing in there. The autos had a sleeve for the flex plate, but manuals have nothing. Look at the tranny input shaft. Does the shaft have a smooth nose on it for a pilot bearing, or does it just have the splines for the disk? You should just see the splines for the disk and that's it, unless your car has something totally weird that I have never seen before...

Wow, that's cool! Never seen that before. I suppose it's a goof in the manual. Take a snapshot of the tranny input shaft. The shaft the clutch disk slips onto. Not the shaft in the manual, but the shaft in your tranny in your garage.
