First of all, I have no idea how to spell neodymium but that is besides the point.

At my work the other day, I got a few of these super strong magnets. They have about the surface area of a quarter but have an incredible amount of strength. They can hold up hundreds of pounds when clinging to a flat steel surface.

The reason I mention this is because I was stroling around the internet. I saw little magnetic jackets that go around oil filters and everyone knows about the magnetic drain plugs, so I decided to throw some of these strong magnets on the oil filter, Xfer case, and Transmission.

I had some extras and was wondering if any of the hardcore racer guys want a couple. I figure these magnets are way stronger than any magnetic drain plug and one of you guys might be able to use them.

Yup, you can get replacement ones for the transmission that are neodynimium.

Have you pulled the filter apart to see if it caught stuff yet?

Where can you obtain these magnets you speak of?

You can purchase the transmission plugs from most DSM shops, including TRE (www.teamrip.com) and Shep (www.shepracing.com)

Do the plugs have that much neodymium in them? I ask because it is extremely expensive and hard to get large chunks of it. The particular magnets I have came out of oldschool super computer hardrive.

I accidentally got one of these magnets stuck to a peice of mild steel I just milled and it took me forever to get it off without damaging the steel.

They have enough that they collect metal very well. I would say they have about 1/2 the Gauss rating of the magnets you are talking about of the same size (approx 1/4" dia). But still quite potent and already built into a plug.
