I was wondering what the difference if any is between the ring and pinion gears on different dsm's. It appears that my ring and pinion gears are worn on my lsd rear so I was wondering what year ring and pinion would work. Or if they are different gear ratios if they will still work? I know someone that has a ring and pinion from a vr4 which I would think is the same as a 1g but not sure if the ring and pinions are the same. Can anyone shed some light on this so I can get it back together and running?
Thanks

Well I found my answer. It doesn't matter what year T/E/L you have as long as the ring and pinion are from a standard to standard or auto to auto the ring and pinion gears are the same. Same ratio and everything.
Now the fun part. Does anyone have any experience in rebuilding one of these? I am told that the tolerances are a pain and have to be done real close. The shims have to be the right ones and if they are not it will not run right. Any ideas or helpfull hints or just plain help???

I swapped my Ring gear to a 4 bolt LSD and popped it back in.
The shims were the same thinkness on the both the diffs, so I just reused them.
The ring gear bolts from the 4 bolt where strong bolts. I used those because when I tried to reuse the 3 bolt bolts they streched.
Typically the pinion thrust washer wears, so thats the shim you will probably need to replace.
