Hey guys. About 2 weeks ago I was driving in the snow and somehow my drivers side axle popped off of the halfshaft(intermediate shaft) and tore up the very beginning splines. The rest of the splines on the halfshaft after the snap ring were fine and none of the axle splines were hurt. I had it towed to my dad's shop and we put it back on so that I could atleast drive it home. I have driven it on a couple of short trips for food and such and it doesn't seem to drive badly, but I am weary about driving it until I get a new halfshaft in case it tries to do it again and just slips. Does anyone know where I might find one or begin to look? My car is a 95' TSI AWD and I haven't seen many 2g AWD's in the junkyards. Also is the 1g drivers side axle a complete axle or is it an axle/halfshaft unit cause I don't remember. Thanks if anyone can help.

Your post is kind of confusing. There are 2 parts to the drivers side axle assembly. Out of the tranny you have the intermediate with the carrier bearing and then the cv shaft that connects to it. What part is it that got damaged?

Yeah sorry I was really tired when I wrote the message so it made sense to me hehe. The part I need is the part that comes out of the tranny and ends where the carrier bolts to the engine. I have always called that the halfshaft or intermediate shaft and the extension from that to the hub I have just called the axle. The whole thing is essentially the axle but those are the terms I have used. The male part of the "halfshaft" is what had the splines ground off of it at the end where the female part slides over it from the "axle". None of the splines on the "axle's" female end were hurt.
