Is it possible to take a FWD and turn it into an AWD? Thanks.

It has been done on a 2g.

A FWD Turbo to AWD Turbo is not that difficult. I have an AWD Spyder down here (crashed) if that says anything. They did a good job on the conversion other than the AWD tank wasnt sealed properly and had serious fuel leak issues. That wouldnt have been too bad either, had they put the proper access panel in like an AWD has.

The 1g's aren't quite as easy (maybe not even reasonable) because the basic body is a bit different...just look at an AWD and a FWD in the trunk area, the AWD is raised - there is a big 'hump'.

I've seen a few 2g AWD swaps...but I haven't heard of someone completing it sucessfully in a 1g (not to say it hasn't happened, but I think that says something about how feasable it is).

On a 1g it is possible. I have done it. you have to cut the trunk area for the awd gas tank. you also have to run new e-brake lines from the awd. other than that if you have all the awd stuff like i do. Ie... front cross members you will be ok. you will also have to find a way to mount the rear sub frame. The bolts that hold it on the awd are pre installed for the awd application. you can either weld or drill the bolts through the trunk area. Hope this helps.

Albert Raczinsky from DV/DT did a GST/GSX conversion on his 2G as well, not to mention that the first AWD Spyder ever ran a T25 from Mandy's old 2G. It requires a large amount of stuff that, in the end, would just be easier buying an AWD.

How did Mandys turbo get on John Huh's car? Last I recall he was running a BB turbo I think making 400+hp. It was featured in SCC as part of the "400 Club". The only way I remember this is that he was on SRO for awhile and knows some of my friends out there.

The very first one was done in California. How her turbo ended up on it was through a trade-in done through FP on her T28, they later sold the T25 to the guy doing the build. This was the better part of 6 or 7 years ago if I recall correctly. She knows more about it than I.

I've seen a video of a twin engine 1G... so I would assume you could do an AWD conversion on them as well... its harder to put an engine in the hatch than a pumpkin under it if you ask me ;) of course they had to cut out a lot more :P

I dont remember where I found it, but a quick search on google found the ones I watched.

the one that comments about not going below 12's is the one I remember reading...

Thats pretty cool though. He ought to go through the regulations so that he can let her rip. If it really has 800hp like it says, he should be well bellow 12's. Nice car.

There is a twin engine 4g63t Tiburon that ran a 10.6 smoking all 4 tires for the first 400 ft. But he was just making a little over 600 combined whp. Seems aweful slow for 800 whp...

The reason that he was only hitting 12's was because of safety reasons. He did not have the proper safety equipment to bring it below that so I think he was letting off at the 1/8 mile or something
