View Full Version : Axle recommendation

I am basically wondering what you guys would recommend for a decently strong (400 AWHP capable or more), fairly priced pair of axles. I searched a little and looked through some threads but didn't find much. Through extreme psi I found a pair through the driveshaft shop for $477.99. Is this a good choice? Or is there a comparable choice that is cheaper? Also how much power can a stock pair of axles usually hold? I just ordered the Value AWD rebuild through Jack so I am just trying to check on axles so I can really put that tranny to good use!

Stock axles hold up just fine. They were proven to hold upwards of 550awhp on mine... A few 18psi launches too. If you really want to upgrade though, that's a good shop..

I got mine (front driver's side and passenger's side 95 AWD with ABS) from RAXLES, for $320 shipped. Comes with a return shipping label to ship your cores back. They don't use reground components or split cv boots like the less-expensive ones you'd get from other companies. These are great quality, and in my opinion better than stockers.

Forget that noise. Just go to denver and have yours rebuilt for 55 or get new ones for 90. Thats a heck of alot to spend on axles.

You should be fine with the stockers.

+1 on the stockers .... learn how to preload on the launch, they will hold up to a lot of abuse

+2 on the stockers.
They've held up to season after season of abuse. This is with slicks and a twin disk clutch with a lot of torque behind them (500 lb/ft+).
I have only snapped one stock rear axle. That was due to wheelhop on street tires with an ACT 2600 clutch.
Now if only I could afford the shep transfer case/drive shaft setup.... Those driveshaft yokes keep turning into pretzels.

Raxles are really nice too. Not quite as aggressive as the DSS ones, but have taken a lot of abuse for not a lot of money.

Agreed, you get what you pay for. Sure, you can run a lot of power on the stock axles, but you will always break stuff when you take shortcuts like that. If you have the money, go for a quality set, if not, OEM will be okay if you are not planning on running a lot of power. I guess it all depends on your budget and goals.

I almost agree :) OEM is a LOT more expensive than what you get if you go to satan to get them. They actually end up being about the same price as the DSS ones. If you have a 1G definately upgrade to a 4 bolt OEM rear they're a lot stronger, if you don't have the money to get DSS and you don't want OEM get them from Raxles. Cheap remans are so not worth it, especially if you end up replacing them constantly.

Yes Pizzle, I will be going with the stock ones lol! I trip in tomorrow so maybe we can get them ordered soon. I also ordered my tranny through Jack so I will be showing up at the crib with some goodies this week. I will probably also drop off the talon this break. How is the 2.4 doing?? :) Also thanks a lot for all the help guys. I will stay with the stockers and learn how to pre-load the launch ;)
