View Full Version : Which fuel pump?

It is time to replace my fuel pump and I was wondering what my best option is. Should I get an OEM fuel pump or go with one with a higher flow? My mods(or the ones that would effect fuel) are intake, header, exhaust, and an MSD ignition. I was thinking about the Walbro 255lph pump. While I am at it I think I might change the injectors as well. Again the same question applies, should I go OEM or are my mods enough to warrant better injectors. Thank you for your time.

OEM will supply more than enough fuel for what you will need for an N/T car.
If you want to upgrade, you can probably adapt a pump off of a turbo DSM for a decent upgrade.
I have one if you want to go that route.

Ok, What will I need to adapt that pump, and what is the difficulty. Is it just a simple swap of the pump, or am I going to have to modify the assembly? Pm me about a price, I will be up in aurora the weekend after next. The way I figure, if I'm going to replace something I might as well make it an upgrade if I can. Should I just wait to change the injectors when I swap out my fuel rail?

It will really depend on what the factory assembly looks like. If it's anything like a typical 2g turbo sender/pump assembly, it should be very easy.
Hardest part will probably be finding a pump sock as I do not believe the pump I have has one installed on it. I may be wrong though.

Here is what the assembly for my car looks like, I think the ones on the 4g63s are the same they just have different pumps. If it is as simple as swapping the pumps, Ill definitely snatch that from you. Would the 255lph be too much?

Unless you are planning on forced induction in the near future, a stock turbo pump would be more than plenty of flow. A 255lph pump would more than likely overrun your regulator as it does on turbo cars and when that happens you would have a noticeable drop in gas mileage without much if any power gain.
