View Full Version : Update from Pinks in Tucson
400 cars, NICE cars.
I'm done, spun a rod bearing on the first pass.
But picked up 36 mph in the 2nd 8th.
I'll be hear all day Saturday and then head back Sunday.
8:00 am and the camera crew was taping the car, 9:00 am they were taping the barstool and one of the producers said he wants to talk more about it.

Sorry to here that, Hal.
Do you know the reason for the spun bearing?
OBTW, what's with the "barstool"? I've seen others mention it before?

Thats awesome about the barstool! Congrats! Sorry to hear about the spun rod bearing though.

The bearing failure is probably related to the 10k+ rpms a while back.
I'll drop the pan out of it when I get home and see how bad it looks.
The car ran great... I almost had to pedal the throttle in 4th.
Talk about an adrenaline rush.
There are 400 "door" cars here, and I am the ONLY car on true street tires.
Hal
This morning I checked the car over and found the "noise".
The tensioner pulley had come loose.
So, I tightened it back down, no more noise, and made the 1st round today.
After that pass it was "knocking" again, but it wasn't the tensioner setup this time.
So I put it on the trailer and will head home tonight.

Well it's 8pm and they still haven't ran the "16" for the show. WTF! It's not very well organized here. No wonder the FP guys in the first show were pissed.
So to appease the crowd there are stunt bikes, 280mph jet cars and beer. They used a jet car to burn down some car. I think it was a Honda Insight.
They did finish up with a "Quick 8" running. An $8,000 set of tools to the all out fastest car here. 7.7@180! All the guys in the running were blasting 8 flat and high 7s. Fast ass cars here tonight.
This show is a 12.5 class so get ready for 14b style thunder in this episode of Pinks.
The Holeshot DSMs didn't make the cut, but they were both running 10.9 and 11.0 on T-25s!
So the DSM turn out was 0/3 because we were all too fast.
Oh, sorry I broke the barstool Hal. Atleast it was after it was filmed.

That is too bad. Those Holeshot cars are wicked. That would be cool to get those guys on TV and say they are on stock turbos. That would rock everyone's world.

Sorry to hear about the multiple "knocks". That's disappointing when you worked so hard to get the car back together for the weekend. Sounds like it was a great turnout, though, with 400 fast cars attending. Hope the repairs are not too serious.
I got this morning around 11:00.
Fired up the car to get it off the trailer... no noise.
Tomorrow, I'll drop the oil pan, pull off the caps and see what's what.
Hal
Oh, the drive line changes seemed to have worked out.
The first pass, I bogged the launch slightly and netted a 1.9 60'.
The next one was a 1.7 after adjusting the nut behind the wheel.
I was the only car going down the track on "street" tires.

Small bit of glory for the DSM/CSM community linked below. Although Hal ran too fast and had troubles later, there was another fellow that did make it and did well.
Congratulations to all 4G6x powered cars that attended and performed.

I did beat one guy on Friday pretty badly.
My 11.6 vs his 12.6 and my 134 mph vs his 104
It was the first launch on the new setup and it bogged a bit on the start.
Tech was "interesting".
If the you had a helmet and the car had seat belts and 4 tires, you were good to go.
Hal
Found the problem.
#4 rod bearing.

Man that sucks Hal, thats a fresh motor right? What do you think caused the problem.
Fresh?
No, several thousand miles on it.
I have an idea, but I need to do some more checking before I can be sure.
Head is off, pistons and rods are out.
I'm going to detail the engine bay, change the fuel line layout, and then drop the engine/trans.
After that I'm going to repaint it and redo some of the bracketry.
New bearings and crank are on the way.
It should be back "on the road" in a few weeks.

Sounds like it will be even better than when it was damaged :)
Sounds like it will be even better than when it was damaged :)
At Tucson, the Holeshot FWD guys were next to us in the pits.
I got some ideas on how do a better surge tank install by looking at their setup.
