There will be an set of index classes this year.

It's still "heads up", but you can't run faster than the index.

There's no dial in or anything like that.

If it's an 11.5 index class then no one can run quicker than 11.5.

11.499 gets you dq'd.

I'm not entirely sure what the index will be but I do know the entry fees will be much lower than the current head up class fee.

The sport compact class from last year will be back this year.

I already expressed my opinion on CRN but will do so again. I think it is a great idea since the sport compact keeps getting faster and faster (looks like you will have to be close 9s to compete) this will give the import and domestic guys that dont have the budget to run in the "heads up classes" a place to run. Also the rules for this class make it really quick and easy to tech. I also like the 11.60 index becuase it gives the guys that don't want to add a roll bar to thier street car a place to run, legaly and safely. The only thing I would suggest would be to make it "Ok" to break out, if the index is 11.60, than the guy who is closest to the index wins, for example one lane runs 11.70 and the other runs 11.59 the 11.59 should win. This would eliminate some of the braking at the end. Just my $0.02 though.

This is a really good idea hal i like the idea of the 11.5 index....This keeps it a little more fun for us who have families and can't afford to put a car into the 9's and maintain it to be competitive with the big dogs... :)

I love the sound of this but also agree that a break out rule should be waved. To many crashes occur from people braking at the top of the track. If the index is 11.50, then the traps are usually around 120 mph.

I doubt that Bandimere's electronics are able to work that way since they use the bracket system, dialing both cars in at the index.

I like that idea also!!! I don't think that it should be ok to break out though, I mean, make it 11.49 (roll cage rule), then if you hit that, you loose. brakeing at the end might be unsafe, well, if you would need to brake, then you are in the wrong class. I will just turn down the boost 1 or 2 and be happy :)

You make a good point, I have no intention of putting a cage in my car anytime soon. So running faster than 11.49 will get me kicked out anyway.

I'm really looking forward to next season. Its been 2 yrs since my car was race ready, limping it down the track once a year the last two years just isn't cutting it. If this class is truly a go, consider me in...I have no doubts I will be pushing the 11.5 cut off.

Going off of what Scott said on CRN they are looking at an 11.60 index which I think would be a great number, because it gives a little cushion to the non-roll cage guys. I think the cushion is needed because there could be a situation where both lanes break out and if one had a roll cage and one didnt you could have a situation where the guy with the cage could have broken out worse but still advance if you set the index at 11.50.

Bad news.

Bandimere isn't going to let this happen.

Apparently they are concerned it would dilute interest in the King Street series.

Ok, another update on this.

USP will run a pair of index classes, but only at events NOT held at Bandimere.

I know that sucks for people who don't want to travel out of the metro area, but you can blame Bandimere for not allowing the classes.

I'll decide after T&T tomorrow.

In either case I won't be spraying the car, so the weight break isn't an issue.

Wow. It's hard to imagine a sport compact class where even I would have to add weight to my car.

Last time it ran, I weighed in at 3080 with a full tank of fuel.

I have a question about the turbo sizing, but I'm posting the question on CRN.

I was at 3168 last year, and will be a hair lighter now. 3100lbs is pretty heavy.

I'm sure I'll be 3300+

Well. taking a look at the rules, I think I'd be closer towards the pro import class instead of the street class.

So i would have to weight 3500lbs to run the nitrous and e85 on the street class. But thats only about 150lbs for me. It would make me a competitve car in that class even with weighing that much..
