Hello,

I have a small problem

My 95 Talon won't start

The engine turns over, but there is no spark at the coil pack (before or after)

The car was fine until last Thursday when it just stopped running in the street

I've changed out the transmission this week, all the suspension, and added air intake pipes and filters etc, changed all fluids, replaced all the belts, and the battery

I believe that the problem is either A. the cam angle sensor, or B. the ecu

I tried to check my codes using the "on/off, on/off, on" procedure, but my check engine light either doesn't work or has had the bulb taken out, I am not sure I've only had the car a short time.

Can ANYONE shed some light on the problem ?

I've got to drive to Texas on Tuesday to pick up my kids for Christmas visitation, so I'm starting to FREAK OUT.

I can't seem to find the proper cam angle sensor anywhere, I've called everyone from sidewinder to stadium in denver, and every salvage here in the springs.

DOES ANYONE HAVE AN EXTRA CAM ANGLE SENSOR ? My car is a 2g but I'm told I have a 1g Head.

PLEASE HELP !!!!

You might also want to check the crank position sensor as well. my brother recently had the same kind of problem and what had happened was the balance shaft belt broke and when that happened it broke the crank position sensor, just an idea?

Can you post some pics of your Cam angle sensor so people know which one you have? Is it on the passenger side of the head (on the intake cam)? Also you say you are getting no spark at all, not even at the coil pack? I have a spare 2g turbo ecu if you need to try that, but I would focus on the CAS and maybe the ignitor and coil pack before going to the ECU.

Well I put the computer on it and..

No Codes, Shows a Pass

Have no idea what this means, borrowed it from a friend, he says it means the ECU is A-OK and it is most likely the CAS causing my problem. I thought the CAS would surely cause a code if it was failing, right ?

As for the CAS it is located on the drivers side, not the passengers.

I would take a pic, but no digital camera.

I'm going to attempt to rebuild the CAS here in a bit since I cannot locate one ANYWHERE, I will post my results

Any more ideas throw them at me, I'm game, I gotta get her moving !!

I don't want to insult your intelligence but have you checked all your fuses including the MPI fuse (my knowledge is from a 1g standpoint so it may be something different on a 2g).

Are you getting fuel into the cylinders? If so I would look at the power transistor.

Where is the power transistor located ?

OK, I have checked all the fuses, they are OK, unless there are some hidden ones. I have fuel in all the cylinders, car just won't fire.

I have now replaced the Coil Pack, Wires, Plugs, and cam angle sensor to no avail. I am wondering if I was looking at the computer wrong.

What response from the OBD reader would indicate a bad ecu ?

Would it be "NO CODES AVAILABLE"

or would it show some kind of communication error ?

As for right now I am getting ready to pull and disassemble the ECU. I'm going to go through it with my meter and rebuild it if any parts are bad. Hopefully this will get me on the road sometime by tomorrow.

I'm really hoping the ECU is dead, that would make life a lot easier, if that doesn't fix it, I'm going to sell it for parts ! I'm losing my mind at this point !!

I will post results when available, please keep throwing me any ideas !!!!

Sounds like the power transistor is screwed. Its a 7 or 8 pin device that sits near the intake manifold plenum.

Okay I am going to follow the instructions clipped from

---------------------------------------------------
1 - To test the section of the power transistor that controls cylinders #1 and #4, disconnect power transistor connector. Using a 1.5 volt dry cell battery, connect negative end of battery to terminal #3 of the power transistor and positive end to terminal #7

2 - Using a analog ohmmeter, check for continuity between terminals #3 and #8 of power transistor. Continuity should exist. With Positive end of 1.5 volt battery disconnected, there should be no conitinuity. Replace power transistor if it fails test.

3 - To test the section of the power transistor that controls cylinders #2 and #3, connect negative end of 1.5 volt dry cell battery to terminal #3 of the power transistor and the positive to terminal #2

4 - Using an analog ohmmeter, check for conitinuity between terminals #1 and #3 of power transistor. Conitinuity should exist. With Positive end of 1.5 volt battery disconnected, there should be no conitinutity. Replace power transistor if it fails test

After I check this out I'll post my results, hopefull this will get me rolling without rebuilding the ECU !

Well today led to some new developments in the case of my car won't start.

Pulled Crank angle sensor (the one on the back of the engine)

Crank Angle Sensor was destroyed

Replaced sensor, now hearing whirring noises when key is on, fuel pump maybe ? maybe it wasn't running at all ?

Doesn't matter still won't start

Pulled off the unit I decided was the Power Transistor and performed above tests

Unit did not pass tests. Hopefully this is the final problem, but I got ahold of the OBD reader again, and this time I get "LINKAGE ERROR"

I think My whole car is falling apart.

Can anyone lend me a Power Transistor before I spend $380 on it at Autozone ? Any one got one gathering dust in the garage they wanna give away for Christmas ?

If it's the same as a 1g, I have one, but I live in Fort Morgan.

I'm parting out my 95 rs but my motor has already sold and if I'm not mistaken the part you need is located near the fuel rail. Check dsmtuners for people parting them out or 2gnt.com Not sure where the wrecking yars are at in CO.
