Hey everyone,
I have a 1990 Mitsubishi Mirage that I'm having trouble figuring out what's wrong with it. I've done a lot of searching and can't find anything that talks about these problems so I thought I would see if anyone here has any insight.
Basically, my car won't start in the mornings, no matter what. The starter cranks and everything it just won't turn over. In the afternoons/evenings, it starts right up. It has a new starter (the old one went out), new cap and rotor, new plugs/wires and a new (refurbished) ECU because the cap's were leaking pretty bad. So basically I just don't understand why it won't start in the mornings but it starts right up in the afternoons/evenings. It seems that it would either be something to do with the cool air or the humidity. Any insight would be great!
Thanks,
Eric

To me it sounds like a coolant temp sensor worth a shot you can find them at auto zone .

What would that be doing though? Like the car doesn't want to start if the coolant sensor thinks it's too cold out?
Thanks,
Eric

It controls air/fuel mixture on cold start. There are two of them one for the gauge and one for the computer you need the one for the computer.

Alright, I'll check that out. If there's any other insight from anybody I'd be glad to hear it.
Thanks,
Eric

How much would you offer? it's got some dents, the driver's seat upholstery isn't in good condition and it only has a problem starting in the mornings, but it runs good and gets 32-35mpg. It has about 93,000 original miles. I may have fixed the problem with it starting but I will know that in the morning. I just needed to fix it in order to sell it so I can get a more family friendly car as I have a daughter due in the middle of October. PM me and let me know.
Thanks,
Eric

Is there any way to pull what the check engine light means on this car? I changed the coolant temp sensor and it was starting for a while, but now, every morning, the check engine light doesn't turn off and the car won't start. When I get home from work in the afternoon, I turn the key on, the check engine light turns off and the car starts right up. So I'm curious how to figure out what the light means in the mornings.
Thanks,
Eric

If the light comes on, then turns off, it has gone into failsafe backup mode. There are about 7 or so of these features built into the stock ECU.
First gen type diagnostic plug? I have a logger. I'd be happy to log it for you.

The check engine light when I talk about it turning off, is just doing the normal car thing, where once you turn the key on, it turns off after 5 seconds or so. So when it does that, I know it will start. It's when it doesn't turn off that I know it won't. I don't even have to crank the car, I just know whether it will or won't start by the light from turning the key to the on position.
I'm not sure what you mean about the diagnostic port. I wasn't aware that cars pre-97 had any kind of diagnostic port. Do you know where it's located so I can check for it? I can't find anything about it in my chilton's.
Thanks!

1g's are on the left side of the steering column. Its a 6 or 9 pin connector I believe instead of the obd2 connector.

Should be a rectangle connector right next to the fuse box in the driver side kick panel.

Well I found one rectangle connector, but it's only 4-pin, hanging there by 4 wires. Does that sound like it's right?
Thanks,

Hey does anyone know what part E8T06875 off this 1.5L mirage is? It was under the radio, above the TCM. I can't find anything that uses this number except a bunch of like, Swedish sites. I think it has something to do with my starting problem, because when it will not start, there is a lot of clicking coming from this.
Thanks for your patience with this,
-Eric
