Ah, the smell of burning brakes, corded tires, a crew who didn't shower for three days (or change their socks).
Freezing cold, wind, rain, and beautiful sunny weather.
Dodging wild life, other racers, and the tow truck.
Fast straights, nasty corners, squealing tires.
Side ways in the dirt, sideways on the pavement, cornering with the rear tires at least six inches off the ground.
Winning the "Most improved lap time" award after staying up Saturday night and cutting two inches off the front and rear springs.
Going balls to the walls for the first 30 minutes and then discovering we had fuel pick up problems when the fuel level got below 3/4 full.
Losing the drivers side lower control arm mounting bolts, well two out of three
Having power steering going on to the front straight and not having any when you get to the right hand sweeper at the other end.
It was a blast!
We have plenty of video and photo's to share, so stay tuned.
We finished a mid pack 8th on Saturday and a DNF on Sunday when our battery "exploded" with about 30 minutes to go.
Here's what happens when you miss the turn!

that was the most fun I've had at the track in a while. It was kinda nice to not have to worry about driving, but still a blast!! Definetly sign me up for the next event;)
I was able to get to know some of the DSM guys that I didn't really know. It is a very good group of guys, glad I was able to join in the fun, cold, wind, and stinky sock adventure!!
Hal, you tore it up yesterday way to go keeping 2 wheels on the ground lol! All the drivers did a very good job, Shawn rocked the sh!t for his "first" time at the track too. And I am still at a loss for words for Ron's performance;)!

Great vid! Glad it wasn't too hard on the car! And congrats to Erron/Chumpsters for getting out there and running almost all day both days...you guys came so close to finishing on Sunday! Sorry to see you guys getting hauled into the pits on the wrecker :( There was also an N/A Eclipse there who finished both days...the only Chump event in which a DSM ever finished, let alone two of them!
But bigger congrats to the Getting Skooled team! That's right, Jack M. (you folks remember him, right?), Kevin, Jason, and I took 3rd place on Saturday, and 6th on Sunday. Finished without even a minor mechanical hitch after going balls-out in a '90 FWD Laser for 14 hours. It was by far the most fun I've had in a car in years (maybe since my 11th grade girlfriend, but I digress). We only went through fuel, tires, and brake pads at the track...everything else was flawless! Thanks Jack for the solid drivetrain! Goes to show what solid engineering and building by a proven mechanic with years of experience can do ;)
Huge thanks to the ChumpCar staff for a great event, too. Very well organized, staffed by racers who love competition, and who want to promote great racing across the country. Get your buckets ready for next year people, because they'll be back for events at both PPIR and PMI in 2011!
Yeah you guys did great, congrats on the money spot on Saturday.
Our voltage regulator went out and the battery sort of exploded, making a huge stinky mess.
Put another battery in and disconnected the old alternator. It fired right up.

Since you put your nose in here how much boost did you guys run on your evo3 16g?? What kind of fuel mods were you running to achieve your high boost levels??Just wondering you guys did a good job though.....Getting sckooled car looked good going through the corners to suspension looked good....

As I said on the other forum, you guys did a great job out there. Placing 3rd is a hell of an accomplishment. Very nicely done!
Here's a few of my favorites I uploaded on imageshack. http://profile.imageshack.us/user/blueveloscity/
The most important thing from this weekend is that we all had a ton of fun and not a single injury! (Hal came the closest though, with Ron right behind him, LOL) It was a great event with a ton of on track time. It's always a good ending to an event when the ambulance driver says he's been bored all weekend.
I seriously can't believe that chopping off 2 inches of spring was able to give me 6 seconds on the track. Jeremy, my hat is off to you my friend. You know your stuff, I'm glad you pushed that decision. :) I thought it would get all bouncy but it really didn't. It just sat the car considerably better in the turns. The added camber from the drop helped a ton as well. Great stuff guys, you are truely my heros from this weekend. The speed in which you serviced the car in the pits is phenomenal. The team work that was displayed you just can't practice for, it comes natural to you guys and I'm a lucky guy to have you all on my team.
So.... Um, Nasa, Scca, Pinks? LOL

Thanks for the props. Having cut springs from the start helped us on day 1 for sure, good to see that it helped the Chumpsters so much on day 2...that's quite an improvement in times!
Turbo is a 14b at 13psi. Stock fuel from pump to return line (not even rewired), and FWD so we didn't have the issues that the AWD tank presents in hard turns...pretty sure that made the Chumpsters a second or two slower based on what Erron was saying.
The car passed tech before the race, and in the winner's circle, so no issues with legality either.

heh
I didn't realize until you pointed it out today that I actually slid sideways across the track entrance road. So yeah, it could have been a very bad deal.
I know there was blood spilled in the pits, and I think I must have tripped over damn near everything at least once.

Yep, Jeremy knows his stuff. I agreed with him and most eveyone else... we needed cut springs
Excellent job Jeremy!

I seem to recall someone saying we should cut the springs back when we first put the stock suspension on the car....

^^^ Yes I seem to remember getting called a "damn CSM'er" when Davis and I said we should cut the srpings while the car was in the garage at Errons...

I think it's fair to say if there's a next time we might do things a little different. I wouldn't want to experience to be any different other than I'd like to do some driving next time!. Just speaking for myself... I had an awesome time and loved every minute of it! I was a little disheartened when the car gave out with 30 mins to go but it was great to make new friends and share in the fun of Chump Car. I'd definitely be in to share another experience like this with all of you! I can't wait to see everyones pics.

Absolutely Jer! You seriously kicked some ass this weekend man. I'm glad we had you there!
Every time I look at this pic I just start laughing.
High Plains is having a 2 hour test and tune on Memorial Day Weekend.
I'll be glad to haul it out there for any of the crew guys that want to drive it, you just have to cover your own track costs.
I'll post more details as I get them in another thread.
