Hehe. I hope its not a modular clutch (clutch and flywheel are one piece). Some are modular which i hear is a royal PITA to install. Others are the standard non modular style.

this turning out to be a royal pain in the ass. there is a bolt directly under one of the shifter cables. we(ok, I) broke a 1/2" ratchet. we(i mean Rob) broke a hammer and 5 CV boots. i think there is also a broken 8" extension. i'm not even counting knuckles or feelings. i'm going to write a letter to Lee Iakoca and politley tell him his engineers suck.

Funny?? I see nothing funny about this Art!
I'll finish the story.....
After we finally got the new clutch installed (it's a Centerforce Dual Friction, not a Clutchmasters) we needed to replace the axle seals. We tried to use the hammer that already had one broken tooth. Well, Rob broke the other one off, and it fell INSIDE THE TRANNY!!
So, we had to take the tranny apart to retrieve the broken tooth. Then came the fun part, trying to put the 2 sides of the tranny back together. There are about a million gears and rods inside that have to line up perfectly. While trying to get everything to line up correctly, we broke one of the bearing races. Stupid piece of sh** was plastic!
So, I'm gonna go visit Phil Long Mitsu today and get a new one (special order is my guess). Then Rob, Art, and I have to decide if we want to try it again, or take it somewhere to be reassembled.
All I can say is this clutch better last me until the end of time because I'm NOT doing this again!! I'm sure Rob and Art will agree with me!

Thats what I've noticed about the 420A's. On the SOHC models everything is plasting. Intake mani, spacers between the rocker arms, etc. I'm really surprised how much abuse these cars can handle. I've got a centerforce dual friction in the neon. Be ready for when it grabs ;-). Before I did the rebuild the car would not even break the tires loose in wet weather. Now its just as easy of mashing the gas in 1st with the clutch all the way out.

Have you heard what I've done with my GS?

Forgive me if I don't believe you. I doubt you'll leave the TSi at home so you can take the Neon to Bandi! :)
It won't be long before it's springtime and everyone will be itching to hit the track! If we ever get my car running, I'll be excited too!

Trust me, I will! I don't to have that cheap piece of sh** break twice! I think I'm still gonna take it to Western Transmission to have them reassemble it though. What do you think?

Well, I ordered the parts I needed yesterday. 4 dust boots that we ripped taking the axles out, and the bearing race. The total from Phil Long Mitsu here in the Springs....$111. The total from Mile High with CoDSM discount....$68.
They said it will take about 3 days to get the parts in, then they will ship everything to me. So hopefully I'll have the parts by this weekend and we can finish this damn project!

i wonder why we never seem to have all the parts before we start a project? we didn't plan on some aspects going wrong, but there are somethings you can plan on needing.

I don't know, but you're right, we NEVER have everything we need at the beginning of a project. Me, you, and Rob need to put all our tools in one garage. Then we should have every tool we'll ever need.
As far as parts go, who knows what we're gonna break next! I'll settle for not breaking any more tools and having the broken pieces cause problems!!

well we knew we were going to bust the dust boots. and since we had to drain the tranny, why not get some sincroshift(sp?).
tools....thats another matter. if we all had access to 1 garage i could see how storing tools would be ok. but if your gone and i want to replace something, well how am i going to get at my tools?
we need to hit the lotto!:D

Well, Rob said, "maybe they'll be okay." But we both knew we would break them, we broke them last time we worked on the suspension.
Rob wasn't sure if we could use BG Synchroshift or not. He said that my engine takes GL4 or whatever it's called. And BG Synchroshift is GL5. I asked the Mitsu service dept and they said to use standard 80/90, so that's what I got. I would rather use BG Synchroshift too, but I don't want to mess anything up.
Dave - did you ever change your tranny fluid in the Neon??
I wish I could get my garage door to program into your visor. Then you could use my garage when I'm gone because you can already get in the gate. But for some reason the garage won't program onto mine.
Hit the lottery, huh? I'm doing my part...buying a ticket! :D

Dave- where did your buy it/order it from? How much per quart? How many quarts will I need?
I have to wait until the parts come in anyway, so I have some down time to order it if I need to.
Thanks,
Patrick

Some Napa stores cary the 75W90 royal purple blend. I believe is $10/quart but I'm not sure since its been a while. I just fill it up till it starts pouring out the fill plug. so around 3.5 quarts.
