This weekend marks the beginnng of the fastest420a in Colorado. I am pulling the motor and starting the rebuild. What advice can you give me to make it as painless as possile? I am going to rent an engine hoist and I have all the tools needed. I am just looking for some pointers if anyone has any.

first off, get about a hundred zip-lock bags and a marker. put nuts and bolts in them and mark the bags with where they came from.

second, leave the A/C in the car. just unbolt it from block and leave it in there.

lastly, put masking tape over wire and /or hose connectors. use that marker again and write an explaination of here that thing should plug in.

everything else is self explainitory.

When you have everything apart, take a day and clean the heck out of everything. Not only is it funner to re-assemble clean parts, they also go together much easier. Also, tool king sells fold away engine hoists for $199 and the engine stands for $40. And finally, have fun, that's what it's all about.

Truly. I have been looking forward to his for months now. I am starting on Friday and I don’t know how long it will take. I am just going to take it slow and make sure everything is done right. It might take me awhile because I am doing body-work at the same time. Man this is going to be fun!

Thanks for the info. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

I wish you good luck with everything. I can't wait to hear about how everything works for you, what products you chose, and what you would recommend and not recommend. I'll probably be doing a rebuild next year sometime.

Patrich,

I'll have to get back to you on that one. I haven't had much chance to test everything bue to me not haveing it all together yet. I went w/ JE pistons 8.1:1 .020 over, Eagle rods, CM stage 4 clutch, Accel DFI gen 6, Crane ing., Vortech S-FMU, RC engineering 625cc inj, AEM cam gears, Greddy FMIC, TurboXS boost cont., TurboXs Type-H RFL BOV, Holly intank, Vortech inline, and a handfull of other things as well as the stuff I already have.

Still to come:

Some type of LSD, Stage 3 axles, 3" cat back, 3" down pipe, Crane cams, mild pandp, pt cruser style lifers.

I will let you know how it all works out. I sould be able to give you a good list of what is good and bad by the time you do your rebuild.
