View Full Version : Codsm?

I hope this isn't a taboo subject here but I've gotta ask. I've been off "the list" for quite a while, then I read Dave's web page. What went down?
If I'm out of line asking the question, let me know that too.
I'm not holding an opinion or a grudge one way or the other, I'd just like to know what's current in the world of local DSMers.
I'll handle this.
First... I have NO problems with the *general* membership of CoDSM... none at all.
If my conditions were met, I'd go back in a minute. But that isn't going to happen.
Now... as to what "went down".
I decided to leave CoDSM, and after doing so... some things transpired on the "COE" list.
Things were said, that pissed some people off. Other things were brought to light which showed other people to be (imo) unworthy of being part of the CoDSM leadership.
I made David aware of what was going because his posts stopped going out. It was (and still is) my opinon that David was placed on moderated status to prevent me from accessing the list.
It is my opinion that David was dropped from the list because of what he "knows", and that some people were afraid that he would tell what he knows.
CoDSM, while it's a great resource, revolves around a private mailing list. If you're not on the list, you are in effect not in the club. Too much power resides in the hands on a group of people who were not "elected" by the membership nor are they answerable to the membership.
The general consensus is that "we will do what we want... if you don't like it leave... if you bitch about it, we'll kick you out".
Don't ask me to tell what I know... I won't... but if you dig around hard enough... it's not too hard to find out what happened.

Exactly what hal said. The first time Steve and I had a problem he basically told me and I quote "If you don't like it here, start your own club." Well I did and everyone loves it more than codsm.
It is my opinion if you want to keep your members happy, give them what they want. The forums allow us to search, send out newsletters and the best part is you don't get e-mailed unless you want to.
When I first built this site it was to help codsm with a new look. Most of everyone liked the theme but Steve didn't.
Also I was accused of starting off-topic conversations and causing too much drama on the list. One of the main reasons Steve and I are on bad terms is because he insulted a member and violated his own rules. When I told him to appologize he flipped and thats how the big arguement on the biz list happened.
Steve is aware of RMDSM but since hes not a member he can't see these discussions anymore. Hes very pissed were still around and I believe he has harrased a few members for being a part of this but I still need to find out for sure.
All I ask of the RMDSM.org members is to be courteous to each other. If we see a problem we'll talk to you about it and go on with life. Codsm may have dsm.org's registration, but we have some of the most knowledgeable and fastest dsmer's around. With that being said I want to thank everyone for staying around and believing in this club.
Thank you everyone :)

You're welcome! :)
Exactly what they both said is why I am here, and not a part of CoDSM anymore. I moved back to Colorado for a few reasons, one of which was to be around a great DSM enthusiast club. Some things went down and I did some research, just like Hal said, and figured out that I would rather not be a part of a "political" car club. Just as Hal stated I also do not have a problem with the general consensus of CoDSM, but I do NOT like how issues are being handled through their "COE". To me, a car club is just that, a frickin' car club. Not a "count your blessings that you're even a part of us, but screw up just once............" kinda place. I would still be a part of CoDSM if it wasn't for those things, but things aren't going to change, believe me cause I tried to get it to change. I have a few friends that are still a part of CoDSM, but deep down I secretly hope that they'll leave the dark side and come over to the faster side. :D

yea i was put on a moderated status by steve for bad punctuation and spelling, because every one was spazzing on my wrighting form. When dave stood up for me and to every one to and i quote "Stop your moaning and bitching and lets move on with our lives" Steve took this as a advantage to suspend dave for a week. And never reinstated him onto the list. CODSM was fun but i was kicked out for informing the COE of what steve said to me over a personal telephone call. Its like watching ww2 from your computer. As steve removes all the rights of its members.

Heh... I do know what happened and I'm not saying.. Lets just say that I got kicked out of CODSM cause my HOTMAIL account was bouncing emails. Gee, I'm sorry, and I got BANNED cause of it? SHeesh.. At any rate, I'm very happy with this club, and while CODSM may have some very knowledgable people in the club, I havent had a question go unanswered here since I joined, unlike CODSM. I get the feeling that this club is going to be around for a long time...

Since we are on taboo subjects... the reason that I joined RMDSM is because I heard a rumor that Mandy was banned from the CODSM list for using the word "boobies". I was just wondering if there is any truth anywhere in that?
I suppose I will leave it up to Mandy if she wants to tell the story or not...
I should mention that I am still a member of CODSM, and I think it is a great resource. I try to stay out of the politics of any club that I am in. However, if people are getting kicked out for saying "boobies", I won't be there for long!
boobies, boobies, boobies! (FREEDOM!)

I think Shea was a part of the "boobie scandal" too. He ended up relieving his COE status because of it, then also joined RMDSM, but he knows more about it than I.
Cody
Hehe,
I don't remember Mandy being a part of the boobie scandal, lol.
Actually, Michelle R. posted it in a joking way about female dsm'rs. It was funny, then Shea and myself mentioned it, that I'm aware of.
When I posted that "I like boobies," last, that topic was closed, lol. I have seen Michelle post since that time.
But you see, I do like boobies...
IMNSHO, and I've said this before... The day that Hal left was a sad day for CoDSM, not to mention John S. and Norms' withdrawals from daily topics.
RMDSM will be THE dsm ubb and hence club; it's just a matter of time.
You know, I started CoDSM. A long time ago. It was a few car pals who were on the same mailing list. We got together at the track and ran 14s, maybe 13s on a good night. It was cool.
It grew nice & slow, and most of the people who joined were not morons. Then it grew out of control, and the majority of the newbies were in fact morons.
I was going to get out of running the list & website & answering 100 dumb questions per day, because I didn't own a DSM anymore, and I was tired of the crap.
Steve was the ONLY one who volunteered. His methods are different than mine were, but it's a different world than when it was "mine".
With that said, who gives a rat? It's all about the cars & the fellowship for me. I don't subscribe to the "club" or "crew" mentality - not at all. I do enjoy hanging out with non-morons who have similar interests.
If Dave had done the sendmail thing to me as he did to steve, I'd have booted him off of the mailing lists. That was my way of dealing with stuff. You don't wanna live within the boundaries which I've put in place on something that I was instrumental in building, go the heck away. Here, let me help you go the heck away.
I know - there was more than just that. My point is that it was a loose & fast thing, not organized. Organization sucks IMNSHO, so it wasn't high on my list of important stuff. :)

I'd like to make two points:
1) When David did the sendmail thing he had already been told he couldn't come back and Steve had refuse to forward on a "final message", much like he had refused to allow me back to the list to post a good bye when my original one bounced. In my opinion, I should have been allowed back on, no questions asked... but instead he demanded to know why I wanted back on.
2) Steve himself in the past, had done the exact same thing by sending mail to the list pretending to be "Jimmy Jones".
CoDSM is "Steve's Club", much like IRC.DSM.ORG was Arron Larson's... until people finally got fed up, and left to start their own.
Even Todd Day eventually saw the wisdom in giving the members the "environment" they wanted. If you don't, they will leave... and then you have a club of "one".

Mandy was not banned for using "boobies" nor was anyone else. Michelle Rickert had written it innocently enough and was "warned" by admins about it.
I left the CoE because of several reasons and was there for the debates regarding both Dave and James P's moderations and finally dismissals. I can say that the decisions weren't made as "decisively by one individual" as some would say. There were people on both sides of the arguement. I won't post my own opinions just because the past is the past. I'm members of both clubs and could care less about politics, I just like cars...

IMO screw politics..... Lets just have fun :D. If you need politics to run a club then your not going to have your members very long.

After reading this thread, I'm glad I asked the question. Towards the end of my quiet stay in CoDSM I too felt Steve was going a little over board, FWIW. I won't bother re-joining CoDSM. (like anybody really cares) :)
I too remember when John left, and then when Hal left. It was like the end of an era, IMO. Fortunately, it looks like another one will be starting here. It's good to know I'll be around to see it.

I also thought their drag list was a joke too,it's just a list for club members. I always thought there should be a list for all Colorado DSMs so we know what competition is out there.
I hope this board ends up representing the fastest DSMs in the state.

Wow, i never "really" knew what had happened. Here's my take on the whole thing. When John and I first met, he showed me the datalogger and was overflowing with information about dsm's. I was blown away and VERY impressed with his manor of speaking. "Who is super nice guy that is actually giving me the time of day? Drum roll...John Salmi. When i first signed up i loved the knowledge that the club spread and everyone i met. For me, all the politics and BS rolls off of me like water on a duck. And i've seen some really stupid posts too. Some flaming or public embarrasment is going to happen and sometimes you gotta' have thick skin. Don't think for a minute that i've never been made fun of or ripped on for some reason. I love cars, racing, and everthing in between. But i love the friends i made along the way even more. Most of you guys/gals are some of the nicest people i've ever met that share a common interest. Some take racing very serious, even i do, well road racing anyway. I will sometimes lose a race. I will sometimes lose a motor. (cough) But i never lose a friend. (hopefully) For me it's all about the people, and remember, no matter what list you are on, or have been kicked off of......YOU determine your friends, not a moderator.
