Hehe I bet. All my runs were bouncing between 12.9 and a 13.1 all day. Oh well I know what the problem is and its not the driver this time ;-).

so whats the problem?

Well the consensis is that the spark is getting blown out from 27psi of boost. 22psi we don't have this problem. normally if the plugs or plug wires were bad we'd see it mis-firing at 15psi. So I've gapped them down to 22 vs 28 and the problem is now gone. saturday I have a vacumn leak to fix too LOL

Yep, I have to gap mine down to a very tight .026" to run 25 psi on the street with the stock ignition that everything checks out in spec. on.

I'm seriously considering the msd dis-2 h.o. ignition, to be able to run a bit bigger plug gap.

ya my day at bandi on sunday didn't go well. I ran a 13.56 but consider what was wrong with my car it's reasonable. I have been detonating a lot, and appearlenty i have little peices of the piston head sitting on the bottom of the spark plug. now the car drove home fine, it was smoking a lot and i mean alot. so i am going to run a compresion and leak down test, and also i am going to check my turbo i think i blew that also, so the only thing still in tack is my tranny and only the tranny, the rear diff is making all sorts of weird noises so i think i am going to be taking it apart also, if anywho has any ideas of other problems please tell me, the simdoms are

-it won't idle
-it smokes alot
-it does still pull decently
-it dies at an idle
-it puffs blue black white (hell probley even blue some pink) at all times
-at the track the dipstick flew out a whole bunch of times
-oh did i meaction i was running 18-19 psi on the stock motor with almost 120,000 miles on it

I personally think it's bad rings, a bad turbo, bad balence shaft belt, bad timing belt, i think the only thing that is still good is the tranny and the actual head, but most likly has a bad head gasket.

a word to the wise----- don't throw a turbo and downpipe on without any supporting mods and try and run a 12.99 because you'll only get a 13.095 at 102

so any ideas would be wonder full!!

white smoke is a symptom of blown head gasket!
what is done to your car in the way of mods? just turbo and dp?
is there antifreeze mixing in with your oil

Sounds like you've got a good idea of what's wrong with it. I won't get into any of it because it sounds like you should just pull the motor and have it rebuilt, rebuild the head, turbo, etc, etc.

My results from Sunday were good as I'm finally solidly in the 13s.

60' 1.906
'330 5.646
1/8 8.793
mph 78.37
'1000 11.486
1/4 13.787
mph 98.41

I'm running my 18g at 16psi for now but will be trying 20psi as soon as I do the fuel pump upgrade/re-wire and install my 550cc injectors.
I also datalogged my runs and saw zero knock and 20 or above degrees timing advance all the way throught the 1/4 mile.

I think I'll better my time this Friday as I hope the cooler evening air will help.

Ok one more quick question. When you bend a valve or valves on dsm's would the car, still run? if so what are the symptoms? I think i might have jump a tooth or two on the belt because it was sooked in oil. i just need a daily driver i plan to have another 4g63 to build here soon i just need something to hold up untill i get that other block and head done. any suggestions?

did you take the timing belt top cover off and check out the tightness of the belt?
It should barely move if you thump it with your finger.

Bending a valve usually results in zero compression, in at least two cylinders.

And, no... it won't normally run. If it does, it will be VERY rough.

Skipping one or two teeth (depending on rpm) won't do it.

My Laser was 4 (cam) teeth off and it ran... like shit... but it ran.

My eclipse skipped 4 crank teeth at fast idle, and trashed 4 valves and guides (tensioner collapsed).

You ran how much boost on what mods? On what fuel? WIth what fuel control? Did you pull a Jimmy Jones on us?

Ryan

gsxinuoff, Im curious just how much boost were you running?

On my best run ever (13.095) i was running at 19 as a spike and then it settled to around 17 or 16. This was also on just an empty tank of 91 no octane booster (which doesn't do anything) and no race gas just good old pump gas. Except it was really close to empty!! that was the first run (this was on friday) and the second run i had on friday the wastegate line fell off, and i was running uncontrollable, which SUCKED because the gauge i have currently only goes up to 20psi, and it was really really pinned!!! So that run i managed to pull a 13.1 at 101 which was cool considering how bad it ran down the track.

To anwser some other questions, my car doesn't have any aftermarket form of fuel, other than the pump being rewired. I only have a k&n (which is dirty as hell), i took out just the lower honeycomb on the maf, i have a a/f ratio gauge, and boost gauge, i am running a big ported and clipped 16g, stock manifold, stock i/c, stock internials and cams, and head. I am going to be getting a 3" exhaust to match up with the hrc 02 eliminator i have now. The 13.0 run was made with just a 02 eliminator and a downpipe, i think have the rest of the exhaust will make it a little better. I just rebuilt the tranny a few months ago, i think it only has like maybe 2000 miles on it. i put a sprung 6 puc in and a proactive 2100 pressure plate. I think that is all in the ways of mods. I might be wrong i might have forgot a bag of gum balls in the glove box!!

those are impressive times for whats done to the car,
unfortunately its not a safe way of doing it and having your car last.

yeah i know i just want to get a 12 and than i am going to back off and wait for more supporting mods!!

Ryan

have you datalogged it to see how its running at those boost levels with the stock fuel system?

No i would really like to however. If you all know anybody with one that would help me datalog the car that would be awesome!! I would like to see what it would look like!

I'll help you out on one of the Fridays when we are hanging out at TB. I'll be up there after the club clash this Friday.
I am very impressed by your times on very minimal mods but be careful plus the readings we get from the logger might scare you.
Last Sunday at 16psi I had zero knock and 20-24 degrees of advance all the way down the strip so I might be able to push the boost up just a little but I'll just wait till I get my fuel pump and re-wire done.
