Its in and BOY do I see a difference... Its twice as thick as the stock IC, and I removed the air dam(n) down there that was restricting air flow as well as the rear dust shield. That should allow for greater air flow around the IC. What do you guys think?

what side mount do you have?
I have been considering a supra sm for my car

I got the Hahn Racecraft SMIC. Never gets any more than slightly warm... Now my engine is overheating, damn water pump. LOL...

the hahn is for 2nd gens isnt it?
I will have to do some modification to get the supra sm to fit but its a lot bigger than stock and a hell of alot cheaper that buying a front mount. I will have to have a custom lower pipe made also.
congrats on your new mod!

the supra smic is huge. it actually doesn't even fit in our wheel wells.

i hope the smic really works out. i'd like to know how many good runs you can get out of it til it finally heatsoaks.

Actually, I've been experimenting, and the SMIC doenst heatsoak.. It does get a little warm, but you can touch it and it doesnt feel hot at all in any way. I'm building a sprayer for it so that should take care of that, and with the bigger injectors and the AFC this thing should be a mother of a sleeper. Other than the 3" exhaust it looks totally stock... It doenst sound like it tho.. Damn Type-S ;)

I know it requires a bit of modification to the car.
I am wondering if its worth the effort?

I've got the Supra IC on my 2g and all I had to do was cut the part where the elbow comes out and goes to the UIC pipe. No banging;) . And it fits fine. Probably the best mod I've done so far (considering price). I'm not familiar about the procedure with a 1g though.

I've seen three 1st gens with the Supra IC and they all were too ghetto for me. I'm sure they could be done right with a little (or alot) of patience but I see too much beating on the frame to make it fit or it sticks way into the fenderwell.

I'm saving for a full front mount now as I have the car paid off and another loan which frees up about $500 extra a month. I shooting for a late August install and hopefully close to mid 12s. (aww crap,I gave myself the 1/4 mile kiss of death  )

DSM-Performance has a huge top/bottom FMIC for $600 w/o pipes. this thing is 1" bigger all around over the Big Greddy FMIC.

FWIW, side to side flow in an FMIC (esp if the core is wide) offers the ability to remove more heat from the charge than a top to bottom flow.

There may be more pressure drop, but that's what happens with more cooling.

$0.02 worth.

Maybe I'll just run a small FMIC with my SMIC.. heh heh heh.. anyone ever try this?

along time ago i ran across a site that offered 2 SMICs for the DSM. not something i want to do, but someone out there put in the time to develop it.

i also ran across a site that explained that if you powdercoat the FMIC/SMIC, the coating doesn't allow the heat to travel as far through the metal of the I/C. metal transfers heat, powdercoating makes it harder to transfer. something to that effect.

i would love to get the dsm-perf. FMIC, but i hate the pipes are routed. so i think i'll go with the big greddy for $900 from RRE.:D

heh.. yeah, that dual SMIC was for the 1G only. No room on a 2G for it.
