View Full Version : DSM Shootout in colorado

Ok I want everyones opinion and input here. I have mentioned it to Carl Morris and he thinks its a great idea. Everyone wants to goto the dsm shootout in ohio but they don't have the $$$ or the time to drive up. Would anyone or everyone be interested in a local dsm shootout at bandimere speedway?

Its going to take time to plan out but I'm sure we can do this with the right people running it.

What do you guys think?

i think its an awesome idea.

set up a couple catagories:
n/t
fwd
awd
then the double dipping 2 power adder boys

i'd run

That'd be a cool thing to attempt. We tried to set something like that up a few yrs ago, but couldn't get enough people to commit to attending. The $$ to rent Bandimere wasn't that much, suprisingly, and I believe the rental includes personnel.

Do it! DO IT!

Now what type of racing though? Its obvious the fast cars will be doing heads up.

set it up just like the ohio shootout. by engine/drivetrain class.
then you can break it down to a heads up race by e.t.s. i may have an AWD but i know there is know way i could beat half the guys on here.

how about:
-16s and slower by model type
-15.9 to 14.0 " " "
-13.9-12.0 " " "
then the super DSMs

we should also include some of the other 4G power cars too. maybe some star/quests, 3k/stealth.......a rare honda with a DSM motor.

:D I think this would be a great idea!! I would definetly run the N/T, and hopefully have the 90' GSX to run too!! If you need any help setting it up or with anything else let me know.

If this happened i'd defenetely have my car up there. Even if I go to OHIo I wouldnt be racing my car obviously... but hell I can embarass myself in front of you guys/gals lol.

I'm in.. Thats a great idea! A few years back my dad organized a battle of the bands up at heritage square (it was HUGE) so I'm sure he could give you some insight if youre interested...

Depending on if the car is back together by the date you choose, then i would definatly be there. I know of at least 6 or 7 people that would go.

I'm in. I'd like to see how my GS stacks up against some of the other FWD DSM's in the area. And I'm sure if we "advertise" on some of the other boards (COSR, HAI, TRN) we can get quite a crowd in attendance.

Sounds like a very good idea Dave. I think there are enough people on this board that would help you out to make it happen.

Set the date a little back though, August ish so the word gets out in the dsm community.

And I like the e.t. category idea the best.

Sounds like a lot of fun.

How about a grudge match category that people pay to run in?

DSMxTSi

Should probably advertise in the Talon Digest too. Then, quite possibly, some people that are closer to Colorado will choose to come here instead of Ohio. Plus, Bandimere is a great track and I've heard that lots of people want to race here even though it's at a high altitude.

Just a thought. :)

If you look at the schedule for Bandimere, open weekend dates are hard to come by.

The best thing to do is to get with Jeff Sipes, work out a date and sign the contract.

David and I can front the costs.

We need a survey to get an approx # of entries.

Well since I'm not on codsm nor the talon digest I'd be curious how many of those members would be interested. If you have friends or you wish to see who all would be interested please feel free. I'm thinking about doing this sometime in August but I need to check their schedule and work with Jeff.

Hal and I can fork up the money to book the event but we need to find a reasonable price so that way we can do prize money and other stuff like that.

If you have any other ideas for this feel free to post them.

I can post a "poll" to the Talon Digest, DSMTalk, and DSMTuning.

Cody posted on 2gnt. If we get a good response from there it would be nice to have a NT category. I just dont feel like going up against turbos because the result is obvious.

DlandryTSI
05-22-2002, 01:33 PM
Lets do that. I'll post one here as well either in this thread or another one.

Well that depends on if we do brackets or not for slower cars.

Hal

You're going to HAVE to run a bracket class.

Hal

DlandryTSI

Yeah thats what I'm thinking.

--Dave

Hal

Ok... here is my idea

1) A single bracket class, .5 sportsman tree

2) Turbo heads up class, .4 pro tree

3) Non-Turbo heads up class, .4 pro tree

4) Best reaction time "Jackpot" event

All heads up classes require mitsu engine/tranny mounted in
orginal orientation, using original drive line. No RWD conversions.

Mirage/Starion conversions allowed only if the motor is 4g63/4g64 (stroker motors allowed). No wheelie bars in any heads up class.

All heads up classes require vehicle to be street legal... current plates/registration.

Car must pass NHRA/Bandimere tech.

All classes have trophy and cash pay back (payout based on # of entries).

Should we put any limitations on power adders?

It's a moot point in bracket classes, and in heads up there are single power adder cars that are faster than two power adder cars.

I don't think it's really worth the tech/inspection hassle.

As long as it's got plates & registration... I think it should be "run what ya brung"

Hal
05-22-2002, 02:08 PM
oh yea...

better not hold it the same weekend as the denver grand prix

a saturday following a club clash or E/T series race would be great.

Ok so heres the classes/rules.... so far

1) A single bracket class, .5 sportsman tree

2) Turbo heads up class, .4 pro tree

3) Non-Turbo heads up class, .4 pro tree

4) Best reaction time "Jackpot" event

All classes are permitted to use Nitrous/turbo's for power adders.

Payout will be determined once we know how many entries we have for this event.

No Auto-X (too labor intensive and we lack the timing/scoring gear)

No car show

I hope to have some cost numbers soon.

First word from Jeff is not good.

All dates for this year are taken.

We *may* be able to do it in conjunction with another event.

Stay tuned for more!

Sounds like it's potential for a good gatharing of people and if it's planned far enough in advance this year and the price of admittion is reasonable, we would have many more show up. I think that's the point, right? If it's just a few of us, there's no way just a few can afford to do it. I'm in (car willing). Sounds like a blast!!
heck! maybe a car show or some other side event could work. Last summer i had organized the Chatfield BBQ that had about 50 DSMs parked side by side. And that was just a BBQ involving one club! Immagine if the word leaked out to the non club members and the surrounding states. I've got a few contacts to spread the word. I wouldn't start gossiping now, but if it's a go i think it would be a potentially large 1st year event. Not to mention for next year as well. It could easily be a larger event next year as the word spreads over time. - - An annual event Hosted by the RM DSMers. That would put us on the map.
I was just talking to Cody & Jenni tonight about having a 2nd annual CoDSM /RmDSM BBq this summer. But if people are less likely to go to both, in a month span of each other, then maybe I could offer to assist Dave to help organize this event instead. I'm game! Unless both events is still doable and we have interest for both? (on different dates of course)
A cookout and car show on the side to keep the non racers entertained could go over well i think. Anyway, just a thought. I'd love to particapate. I have lots of banner material now for this. And my bro is a graphic designer. :)

I would love to help or do whatever. I guess i could tow my car up there, show it and tow it back, wouldn't that be like a normal dsm thing to do... j/k i'll see who all i could bring.. i have a lot of people that are willin to watch, mostly becaus they don't have cars or dsm's.

That sounds great! I'd even be willing to sacrafice a center shaft for such an event. I'm not going to the IDRC this year, it's starting to look more like a high school parking lot than it is a racing event. Keep me posted to this event, i'll help any way i can. Jeff is definatly the best contact, he and i set up the first TEC Import challenge a few years back.
I'm In!!!

What a great Idea...

My .02 worth would be,

set it late in the season, more toward cooler weather. How late can we get Bandi, say September??

I might be able to get my car down to the mid 13's by then too!!

If we do NOT share a date with any other event... the EARLIEST available date is in October.

I am waiting on dates and cost information for the "shared" event situation.

If we share an event, we reduce our costs but we will have to cap the number of entries.

At this time, I do not know what number the cap would be.

Hey my 2 cents...

great idea, I'd even be willing to spot a website for this if anyone had a catchy name that ppl would remember... something they oculd check back with for updates as its figured out.... Any ideas/suggestions lemme know, would take all of... 3 days if that to have the info already posted updated and ready to run on its own domainname.....

I know one group that would possibly be able to get the word out... of course it prolly wouldnt be a crowd everyone would want out there.... EYR (Extreme Youth Racing) they go out to Bandi every 2 weeks weather permiting and have 1 or 2 cars they race out there... not DSMs but their sponsors might like the idea of atleast attending it, talking to ppl etc, car owners permitting ;)

If you guys want to throw auto-x in there I have ythe timing scoring and the big timing scoring trailer they use at the local events, coors, colorado springs etc. It has cones timing, radios, everyhting. Let me know if yopu want auot-x too so I can see if will be free or ifthere is an already scheduled auto-x. All we woould need is workers and Bandimere to let us usde their parking lot. They have in the past because that's where we used to hold some of our scca races. I'm also definitley in for the shootout if you can get the dates and Bandimere that is.

If you all are still planning this I would be interested in it. Ohio is a long way to drive from here for that DSM shootout. Even if it is done next year I wouldn't mind. Let me know if I can help.
