View Full Version : No street time anytime soon

Well as you probly saw in the second creek post I killed yet another 2600 street disc. Now I"m not sure if something contaminated it but I will find out for sure Sunday. One thing I did notice is this disc seemed to die quickly with the NOS being used. So its possible that I was exceeding the grasping capability of the 2600. A few people did note that there was a dark blue smoke coming out when ever i used it. So I do believe the NOS was causing the disc to slip and burn. I'm expecting to see the disc either in pieces or no material left since the pressure plate can't grab the disc at all.
Also I have a list of things I do need to fix/install before the car goes back on the street.
Drive shaft loop
Fix the rear camber
Re-locate guages (won't fit with the front bars of the cage)
Scatter shield for the clutch assembly
Some misc wire cleanup
Minor interior fixes
If time and $$$ allows bigger brake kit
Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
NOS bottle blow tube
Purge kit
All new vac/boost lines
Also this morning I re-torqued the head studs. I originally torqued them down to 90ftlbs I believe. As I was checking them, all 10 of them had come loose about 10-15lbs. So right now they are at 100ftlbs so hopefully they will not be coming loose.
Never a dull moment is there?

Sorry to hear that Dave, its a never-ending battle.
Not to pick nits, but it's not "NOS". It's Nitrous, or N2O. NOS is a company name, whereas nitrous/N2O describes the product used to create power. Unless, of course you have a kit from NOS. Then I'll STFU.
Sorry to hear about the car, man. I'm suprised that the 2600 didn't hold, but it is AWD. I had a 75 shot in my car on the stock clutch and it held pretty nicely. But being RWD it just broke the tires loose.
I hear that ACT is making a 3100/3200 lb plate? Or maybe it's time to look at RPS? My RPS Stage 3 has a 3300 lb plate.
If it ain't one thing it's another. Mebbe its time to look at supras? :) :)

Yeah i'm starting to think I was right around the 480hp mark w/o the n20 then possibly hitting 510 or so with it. Oh well I'll take it to ASW after IDRC to prove that point :).
As of today I havn't pulled the tranny yet. I'm just wanting to get this cage install done and out of the way. All thats left is:
Drill the passengers side bar
Mark where every joint lines up
Take the cage out and drill all the joints
Re-assemble in the car and bolt it to the chassis
I've sorta figured out what I'm going to do with my guages but I might have to get a combo guage made up for the egt and fuel pressure.
Next weekend I'm going to pull the tranny for sure and see the official damage.
Don't ya just hate the small pidily stuff??

thats sucks about the clutch. if you run it and nothing breaks, your making enough HP.:p
try the DIY gauge solution on RREs site. i think its only about $50 and you could tuck that thing anywhere in a 1g.

Shit I only torqued my ARP head studs to 83ft lbs should I torque them to 90 or 100lbs. I havent installed the valve cover yet so I can still torque them down?

Torque them to 90 ft lbs. Unless you plan on running Nitrous.

Cool, ill do that, will I have to retorque them again in another 1000 miles when the engine is broken in? I have a 4 piece Metal headgasket.

I'd do it sooner than 1000 miles. maybe like 200 and re check them at 500?

No way your telling me im going to have to remove my Valve Cover 2 to 3 times in a 1000 miles. I might as well not even bother using RTV to seal it. That sucks

Uhh just as an fyi you dont' use rtv on the entire valve cover. You only use it where the CAS and the two cams sit and on the half moon.

Should be able to re-check the torque on the head studs after driving it for a day, then re-torque if necessary. I torqued mine to 100 ft lbs assuming that they'll loosen 10 lbs or so, then I'll adjust as necessary. Should only have to check the torque just that once, then not worry about it provided nothing bad happens. :)
Dave........ John mentioned RPS clutches. I've had nothing but best of luck with RPS and will only buy RPS for our cars, except the ESi because RPS doesn't make one for the non turbos. I would also definately recommend checking RPS out. Rob, the owner of RPS, is easy to talk to and will work anything out for you.
