well i finally got off my ass and made a heatshield around the intake. well actually mandy wanted one made for her car, and i used the leftovers on mine.:p
after a couple runs this afternoon, my intake temps dropped 20 degrees. before i was seeing around 110 while driveing and 125+ at idle. now they sit at 85-89 driveing and 95 at idle.:D and it certainly helped my idle problem. i was getting alot of hotair into the TB, causeing my idle to hover at 1500rpms. so after a hard 20 minute run......it was only at 1000rpms. i'm sure a better I/C and egr blockoff will help the rest.
just thought i'd share the news.

Good job,I gotta do the same sometime. At the strip I just remove my headlight and I see ambient (mid 80s last time at Bandi) air temps from that but obviously with the light in it gets pretty hot under the hood.

i thought about doing the same thing next time i head up there. i also took so dryer hose and ran it from the stock filterbox hole in the quarter panel under the car so it sits just below the smic.
the stock 2g intake system is garbage :p

The stock any G intake is garbage. Ambient air temps at the MAS rule. Wait until winter time, it's sweet.
My 2g mas and the K&N are where the stock smic used to be. Actually, a little lower, hehe.

that was another one of my future plans. cut a in the side and run everything in there.:D but this will have to do until an FMIC gets installed.
yeah, what the hell is up with the stock intake track pointing up and backwards in the wheelwell? all the had to do was turn it the other way. :p
edit- do you worry about water getting at your filter and MAS? or is this just on a "strip car"?
Rain, snow, puddles, 2 ft. hi snow drifts daily driver. Works fine, even at high speeds in pouring mountain rain. People worry way too much, but there *are* alot of stupid people, hehe.
Now if the car went into a river, we'd have a problem. ;)
