Quinn, give us a call (720-982-7065) and maybe you can bring it over tonight and I can take a look at it.

Welcome to the world of crankwalk.
The sound is the crank angle sensor trigger hitting the sensor body.

Ouch, that is harsh Hal...;)
We hope it's not, but you do have a 2g.
Check that crank dampener pulley for looseness, it may be coming apart!

that makes me think bad thoughts... I have a knock up there that doesnt sound like its coming from the valve cover.... well it does but pulling the oil cap off doesnt make it louder from that area.... :(
dont make me think bad things :P
(still hoping that between Mark, Dave and everyone here and on CO dsm someone might have seen this previously and its somit stupidly easy to fix)

quinn and i just replaced the crank dampener pully 4 days ago...
So what I'm hearing James...
Is that you didn't really torque the bolts down, the loc-tite disintegrated and the pulley is now loose again. Hahaha, j/k man.

I wonder how long my engine is gonna be trouble free, mine's been modded since 40k (350+ passes at Bandi) and I've had no probs with the engine but I did break one tranny back in '99.
Now my car has just over 111k and I'm having stuff just wear out from the mileage.

Quinn stopped by yesterday and we found that 3 of the water pump pulley bolts were not even halfway in. It appears as if the bolts Napa gave Quinn and James were actually the wrong size and ended up stripping badly. We were able to get two of the 3 tightened down and had to remove one of them and replace with a spare we have in our "parts bin". The 4th bolt's head was stripped and so we couldn't move it much at all, it'll need a needle nose vice grip and some patience to remove it for a better bolt. So after we got the 3 tightened down it didn't rattle anymore. :) Quinn, you'll have to keep a close eye on those bolts from now on. If they do start loosening over time you'll probably have to get another new water pump.
Fortunately it's not crankwalk. His car has over 100,000 miles, it won't 'walk.

Now you know why you goto the dealer for bolts like I mentioned..... :p
BTW James.... If it doesn't thread in nicely don't force it. It's the wrong bolt.

I just got a spare 2g water pump Quinn... I found my leak though and its the oil cooler line behind the turbo, so if you do need a pump, I paid $15, I dont want profit, so you can have for what I paid, it looks to be in great shape.

lol - thanx for the offer on the pump... however, I have no desire to go through that kind of HELL again for quite some time.. If my bolts start to back out or something, I'll pick it up from ya...

yea it was weird tho, even the bolts would not go into the pump we removed... Hey quinn just rember you can do a timming belt job now in 20 minutes and removed the pump in not much longer...

Yeah, but the threads in the water pump holes probably got stripped when you first put the new ones in, thus the old ones wouldn't go in either. Either way, it's fixed now (if at least for a while) and Quinn doesn't have to be embarrassed anymore. :)
