hey guys, im new, and don't even own a dsm yet. however i'm looking into one right now. It's a 98 gsx, for like 9800. The only problem is it has 94,000 miles on it already. The person who own's it doesnt seem to know much about cars, so i'm assuming she didn't turbo time it. I havn't had a chance to test drive it yet, but i'll be watching for smoke. Before i buy it i was planning on going in and having a leakdown and comp test, just to make sure everything was looking good. Assuming it passes those test, and the fact that i want to mod the car quite a bit, is it going to be worth it you think?

It sounds like it would be a good deal if everything checks out. Compression test and leakdown test is a good start. Some other recommendations:
- check for fluid leaks of any kind
- check engine bay for signs of damage from a previous accident
- inspect all belts, especially the timing belt
- and if the car doesn't have crankwalk by 94k miles, it probably won't ever have it.
- there's probably some other AWD stuff to check too (x-fer case, rear diff, etc) but I don't have an AWD so I'm not sure. Maybe some of our AWD members can help you with that.
Good luck, and welcome to the club!

If there is NO damage to the body (precious accidents, etc..) 9800 is a good price. I bought my 95 for 9k 2.5 years ago. Make sure that it doesnt burn oil, leak tranny fluid, etc.
Expect to do a timing belt and other belts after you buy the car. The o2s wouldnt be bad either.
Take it to the dealer and have it checked for the Transfer Case recall, as well as the lower lateral control arms - those should be under recall too.
