View Full Version : A little more tuning done

Last week I was able to get the '90 Talon "baseline" tuned for partial throttle/cruising conditions. Won't tune for wide open throttle till I get a cable for our datalogger. It pulls real nicely, runs much leaner than before but is still too rich, and seems to like running at 18-19 psi on the 93 octane pump gas out here. Can't wait to get a cable so I can put some 110 in there, tune it, and take it to the track! I took some friends for a ride and they all love how little spool up time there is for a TD06 20G, even 5th gear pulls from 50 mph. :) Saturday night Benji and I (Benji has 91 GSX with ported 14B and mbc running 15 psi) did a 5th gear roll 'n' go from about 60 mph, we were dead even for maybe 2 seconds then I pulled HARD from him. Granted our Talon is much more modified than the GSX, but it was a good indication of the spool up time.
One minor thing I need to fix is apparently the U-joints. It developed a minor vibration under the car and seemed to get worse as we were cruising around Saturday night. Bummer, but it's better than a dropped valve!

Nice, 93 at the pump and lower elevation! It's cool you got it running good but it’s to bad you couldn't get it 100% up here in Denver. I would have loved to see you run it at the track.
Keep us posted when you get it 100% and to the track.
You guys missed it, I lowered my ET yesterday to 14.01@101.92 on 15psi. I put that solid motor mount on and added some KYB adjustables to the rear. I still had a TON of wheel hop but I did notice less than before. My 60's still suck ass though - average of 2.50  FWD sucks
So, w/ some slicks I should be in the low 13's on only 15psi:D

good to hear the car is starting to come together for ya. is it a standard 20g or some fancy buschur model?

It used to have the BR 20G, but that turbo took a large rock or something as it had maybe two blades left on the compressor wheel, but it still ran a low 13 at 15 psi on pump gas the last time with that junked turbo. Now it has a full TD06 20G from TEC, I believe it's what both John and Norm used back in the day.

Sweet! :) We wish we coulda seen it. Maybe you can come out here next year and see what it'll do at a more realistic elevation. :D

Whatever ... he actually had to shift down to third to even start pulling away while I kept it in 5th. Ricers  :D
Just kiddin' :p
Car feels great, and I love his bov. Spool up time is awesome!
