View Full Version : I think I fixed the spool up problem
Running less boost, it's almost a full seond faster to 7k rpms, and flows a lot more air.
I degreed the cams, and put an 8cm exhaust housing on it.

looks like you got some more airflow out of it too. think its the elevation thing again? whats your timing set at now? still base timing?
can't wait til i can push close to 300g/s :)
I think degreeing the cams was the real "fix".
Peak air flow was actually 339 g/s

thats about 44lbs/min. i don't know the hard numbers on the red, but i'd imagine it could flow close to 55lbs/min. so the big question is, is where's the rest of the air? sealevel?
are you gonna keep tweaking the cams to try to get better advance out of it?

ahhh...
I suspect I won't see much more of a gain until I go to a ported head with larger valves.
Right now, it's a stock head.

It is a stock head... a stock 1g head, and I have a freshly rebuilt one on the bench
Hal
Good numbers!! What size turbo are you running?
Just some little thing I picked up.

its the one on the right. now if you could get both of them in there, and get it to wrok, then you would reach demi-god status.

I would agree, how far off were your Crowers Hal? Any?
If they were right on the money I'd be mighty surprised, but if they were what did you change? And how much?
So when are you headed to the track again? I wanna see... :D
Intake was off 6 degrees at the crank, exhaust was 2 degrees at the crank.
Going back wednesday.
Hal
That'd be about right for the Crower's. ;)
At least you got it right now! Oh yeah, Hal's gonna really need that cage now!
I'll try to be there, but I already know I won't make it there before 6:30ish. Kick ass Hal and good luck!

Hey hal,
your going up this wednesday? i am going to go to but i think i will just observe because i need to break in the motor. Plus i want to see ya do something other than another 13 @115,000,000 mph..
I'll be up around 3:30-4:00 ish we might bring andrews car up to see what the little thing can do.
Let me know..
Mark
I'll be there...
I've looked at various other logs from last wednesdays day test.
The performance increase varies from run to run, but the best is a full 1.6 second improvement in just 3rd gear when compared to a 13.4 run.
If it really works out like I hope, subtract 1.6 seconds from a 13.4... that would make me a happy camper.
Hell... even getting the car back into the 12's would make me happy... at least I'd be making progress.

good luck. i hope i can be up there again come sept. got to get in a couple more runs before i put the car in mothballs.:p
Too much stuff to do this afternoon, let us know how well she ran Hal.
It started off rich, with the timing zeroed.
I kept adjusting it, a little at a time.
By the end of the night, I had picked up a good 5 mph in the traps, and my poor driving pissed away several 12 second runs.
My last run was a 13.1 (missed 4th) with a 1.9 60'. It was by far my best launch of the night. Spun most (if not all) of first.
Car is still a little laggy, but it looks like I have room to add plenty of timing.
I'm going to play with that this weekend, then put the 7cm housing back on for next week.
Didn't run what I wanted, but definately made a lot of progress.
