So i finally got the car put back together. Started it up seemed to run just fine, UNTILL, the crank pulley came loose, appearntly it wasn't as easy as i thought, but oh well!! So i should be able to get the proper tool for the job tommorow and have it running it time to go see hal rip up the strip!! Who knows though. All i have to do is just tightten it up a hair and adjust the cam angle sensor. I hope i can also figure out why my tach isn't working!! I don't understand that. And the other thing is my fans go on everytime i have the key in now it's really weird.
If anyone has any idea's on that let me know, basically what happenes is there is no tach working now. Any ideas??
Then the other thing is how to i go about breaking in the new motor?? Any help on this subject would be great!!
Mark
p.s. thanks alot.. (in advance, and hope to see some of ya up there tommorow)

I believe I read a post from another board stating that you should rev (while driving) up to 5000rpm (not having a tach this will be hard) and letting the engine coast to 3000rpm and repeat. But take it with a grain of salt. I would call one of the dsm shops e.g. Buschar, extreme and ask them what the best way would be.

if you need a new crank pulley, i have a stocker laying around somewhere. just incase there happens to be something wrong with yours.
whats your email addy. i got this laundry list of break in procedures. its geared more towards V-8s, but the principles still apply to all engines. patrick just finished the break in on his new motor and the thing is strong.

Having destroyed 2 crank pulleys I think I can state what you should do if its seperated.
BUY A NEW ONE.
The one that Jon Barton (bless his heart) had almost no miles on it (25k) and it seperated after 8 hard launches. Mitsu has a new one for 2Gs that are REALLY nice. Not too expensive either.

if you need it, ask Patrick (boostedGS) if he still has it. last place it was scene was in his garage when i put the lightened pulley on :) . but if you need and he has it, its yours.
edit- oh yeah i threw that "break in an engine" post in the engine forum, just so everyone can see it, or add to it.

Unfortunately, I think your stock crank pulley got thrown away Art. I was rushing to clean out my garage that last night I packed and moved out of the apartment, so everything that wasn't essential got tossed. :(

We'll it appears it isn't the crank pulley, it was the wooddrift (sp?) key that connects to the crank and holds the crank timing gear on the crank (basically it keeps it from pushing it away from the block). Anywho it was that, and unfortunitly i think i bent some of my sexy ferrea 1mm oversized valves :(. I am going to be pulling the head of later today, and i will find out for sure. So i most likely won't be competing at idrc this year. Oh well.
