As far as I can see the new turbo neon motor will bolt into the 95-99 gs/rs. The new turbo neon uses our DOHC head. The intake and exhaust are still on the opposite side. But as far as using the manifold off the new neon it looks as though it should bolt up to our head. I think (I haven't confirmed part numbers) that the manifold they used on the turbo Mexican 2.0L 420a is the same manifold. We already know that the 2.4L I-4 bottom end can fit in our car and our head bolts right up to that. So if we can't use the turbo neon head because of the intake and exhaust being on the opposite side we can still bolt on our stock head and it is the exact same thing.

Basically all you need is a 2.4L bottom end w/ our 2.0L head and the manifold off the new turbo neon and you have the exact same engine that they are putting in the new turbo neon’s. But you can make it better by doing a JE/Crower (or what ever innards you want) set up. You can also go w/ the turbo Mopar is using or get a different one. I'm sure once the neon is for sale you will see turbo upgrades soon after.

Finally the choice of turbos :D :D :D

It's kinda funny a few guys on the 2gnt board have done this 2.4L swap along time ago. So they have basically already been using the engine that the new neon’s and pt's have. (- the turbo and manifold it come w/.

This also means we can use the ECU off the new neon’s and run higher boost w/ A LOT more ease.

Tranny's look to be the same as well

Look out 4g guys.

Options, options, options, finally!

I'm more exited about using the manifold and the ECU more than anything because the stock turbo neon is boosting 14psi which means it will be much easier to boost higher w/ some thing as simple as the s-afc and larger injectors.

I have a feeling there will be a lot more boosted NTs here soon. One of the reasons I have not looked at a kit more seriously is even if I could scrape up the money for a turbo kit, I would not be prepared for the engine blowing and with the options we have currently you just never know when that is going to happen. Very nice Brian.... thanks for the info

Have you looked at the oil pan problem?? According to the neon boys the 2.0l oil pan will not bolt to the 2.4l block, the bolt pattern is different. The 2.4l oil pan will not fit in the eclipse due to clearance problems with the cross member. So it will involve some custom work....

Yea, I knew about the oil pan problem. It isn’t hard to make an oil pan. Actually all you need to do is customize the 2.4l one rather than make a new on from scratch. I think there are a few other little details like the oil pan issue that have to be addressed but the oil pan is about as bad as it gets if you want to call that bad. To me making all new motor mounts is bad and you don't have to do that.

I don’t know what turbo they are using but stock boost is 14psi, 8.1:1 compression ratio, 2429cc displacement, 87.5mm bore, 101.0mm stroke, 205hp/220tq.

Not a bad platform to build on.

Like I said I am more interested in the ECU and manifold. I know the manifold will bolt right up so all I will have to do is choose a turbo and make a DP. :D

I have a feeling your going to see some VERY fast neons and PT's at the track in the future.

The GS/RS now has three choices engine wise. A fully built 2.0 like Patrick and myself have a 2.2L stroker from Howell, or the 2.4L swap. It probably wont be long before you see a 2.4L stroker and Howell Automotive is working on a 3.0L aluminum-racing block.

And w/ the use of the 2.4L manifold you will be able to choose form a lot more turbos.

I still think I am going to go the 2.2L stroker rought this winter.
