I'll use this thread to document how I am building the coil on plug setup.
Please do NOT post replys to this thread, use the "new ignition" thread to ask questions or make comments.
Step 1:
Make a pattern. This pattern will be used to create the finished version of the base plate. The base plate is use to locate and support the coils.
In this photo, the pattern is cut to shape, and a hole drilled to make the approximate center of each spark plug well.

Here are the coils:

Here are two coils, one has been shortened, the other has not.
Height (http://206.124.12.138/coils2.jpg)
Here is how they are shortened. It is done in two ways. First, the rubber boot is shortened. Then the normal "cap" is removed from the top of the spark plug... leaving only the threaded top portion. This permits the plug to slide further up into the boot without binding the conductive spring inside.

In this photo, the pattern has been cut to accept all of the coils. Initial fitment is ok. Once the final base has been made, the coil mount locations will be transferred to it using reference marks.

Now we have to wire the coils up. First, unless your coils came with harness end connectors, you will need some .110 female spade connectors.
Solder a connector to a short length of wire, and then put heat shrink tubing over it.
Put to connectors on each coil and seal the joint with more heat shrink or electrical tape.
Place the coils onto the spark plugs, and run the coil +12 to one wire on EACH coil.
Take a coil trigger wire and connect it to the unused wire on the coils for cylinders 1 & 4. Connect the other trigger to the unused wires on the other two coils.
Put key in ignition, say a brief prayer, and start the car. If it fires up... be happy. If not, switch the trigger wires from one coil set to the other and try again. If it doesn't fire... put it all back the way it was and hope it still runs :)
Now it's time to build the finished base plate.

At this point the plate has been cut to size, fitted, and bolted to the valve cover. It fits nicely in the area normally occupied by the factory spark plug cover.
Next we will cut the holes for the coils.
Once the holes are cut and coils set in place, it should look something like this.
