Ok... so we are having a hard time finding a 7 bolt shortblock for cheap, but 6 bolt are very numerous.

Will the 7 bolt crank fit in a block from a 6 bolt??
The car is an automatic and I doubt we could find a 6 bolt flexplate....

Thanks
Seth

ill tell you what, you buy me pistons and rings for my race block ill give you my 7 bolt short block. If you intend on boosting (HARD) it it will need bigger rods, and be drilled and tapped for oil squirters but the crank is the same as the turbos. It also has 9:1 pistons.

6 wont fit in a 7, but a 6 bolt lower end will fit on a 7bot head you need to drill the head stud holes to 7/16" so that the 6 bolt head studs will fit through but will work. But you need matching oil pan front case and rear main plate

define cheap, I got a long block I pulled, still procrastinating on tearing it apart to find out whats bad/good, but if its good I'd be willing to part with the short block... its just taking up storage space in my storage lot....

couple hundred bucks I suppose

we want to rebuild the block so its reliable for a daily driver....

it only has to support a 16G @ 17psi since thats all that we can fuel it for. So a completely stock block is all we want

I still have no clue as to why the other engine failed :(

Last question.... how much to rebuild a block?, nothing special just want a descent rebuild, I can do everything but machine work

my old block is stock, long as the short block is good and I can manage to get it out of the BACK of my storage unit, I think I have all the tools I need to break it down and see... (2g out of a 97 GSX) I have no qualms about leaving it in pieces if its not something you can use, either way it takes up the same amount of space :P

well if he gets that 2g block its going to be a pain the the ass to install into a 1g... you will need diff motor mounts??? (DONO ON THAT) but the oil pan, and front case, and rearmain mount...

every year they changed the dsm blocks a bit for the better or worse. Now i am not more then 75% sure that the oil pan bolt points and stuff are the same or not, same with the front case and a few other things. Your best luck at finding out is call mile high and ask if the *part* is the same in *year* and *year*. But if you are just pulling the crank out of it that sould be all good.

so who do I need to call? I pretty sure that an actuall 2g engine wont work, we need a "late 1g" engine, unless some one has a 6 bolt flexplate :).... hmm... maybe the dealer

this is for a 93 tsi, we need a block cause the current one has many larger holes in it....

I found a descent 6 bolt and a flexplate to go with it so I probablygo with that for $200

where should I take the block to get checked out / worked on?

thanks for everybodies help
