wow, nice review. very well thought out and written.

but here was something i always thought about trying, but never had the time or money to get the car to a dyno to see the actual gains that it might produce.

1) a cut-out right after the 02 housing and before the 90* bend on the DP. you could retain your stock exhaust, but when you go to the track to run, open a shorter, no restriction path to atmosphere. sure it would be loud, but you would have insta-boost.

2) thermal wrap. if you are running a larger exhaust it is important to make sure you keep some of the exhaust hot. like you explained in the review. but if your running a full 3" turbo-back, thermal wrapping the DP might help. there is also the possibilty that it could reduce engine bay temps as well.

ofcourse neither of these hae been proven to have any advantage, just thoughts i've had. maybe with more time and proper insturments to measure changes/gains, we could find a simpilar, more cost effective means to build race bread exhausts.

Thanks! I'd hoped someone thought it intuitive and get the thought juices going. .. I had concidered both things you've mentioned. The wrap (like I mentioned in the review) and the trapdoor on the down pipe. I think I will try the wrap with the 2.5" dp for now untill I can afford and consider what type of 3" dp and O2 style to goto later. A larger turbo is an option at this time but it's not one in the near future. I have the engine internals to do first. And that's expensive allready. Plus, I want to see how far one can go on the 18g. It's seems to do the job for now.
As for the trap door on the Dp. There is a manufacture out there that makes something like that. I thought I had come up with that idea years ago, but I guess not. However, I'd perfect it a lil more than what I've seen for better flow for when It;s capped off again. I can't remember where I saw the item, but it could of been in a JC Witney catalogue.

By spring I hope to replace my exhaust with a 3 inch Thermal and I also am going to try the wrap on the DP and monitor temps in the engine bay.

Do you think going with a 3 inch DP with an 18g is overkill or is the benefit worth the replacement price. I think the 2.5 inch DP helps spool the 18g back up faster than a 3 incher. I guess for high end power that would not matter much but with everyday driving and road course racing the smaller DP might be better.
