OK where do I start. I am looking to build a motor that can stand about 650HP+ to the groungd. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas about cams and pistons and so on.... Just wondering oh yeah also looking for a tranny and a turbo so any suggestions would be great....
Thanks

a 7 bolt will do just as well as a 6 if you're rebuilding from the ground up. If you're going to rebuild the thing, you might as well put in a 4G64 crank while you're at it. The bearing sizes fit better (no crank walk)... as far as pistons, I've had good luck with JE's but people here like Ross (which I've heard tons of good stuff about also)... and if you wanna push a ton of HP Crower rods are the only way to go IMHO.
I'm using Ross pistons with Eagle rods in my 6 bolt 2.3 project.
Estimate is well over 600 to the wheels.
I scored KILLER deal on a FFWD Stage 4 cyl head :)

Yeah I was going to run HK$ 272/272 cams with Ross piston eagle rods, sheet metal intake mani, tubular ex mani, ss valves, ARP fasteners, titanium retainers, port the head, DSMLink, maybe a 100 shot, huge injectors (960s?), FP T4 or ??? Just a thought though... Also would just porting the head be good enough or would you guys suggest something like what Hal is doing???
Porting requires some level of knowledge about the flow characteristics of the specific head.
I prefer to leave porting to the "experts".
Simple gasket matching is another story.
Normally, I wouldn't spend the $ for a head like this... but the deal was just too good to pass up. It's normally $1600 (plus core)... I got it for $1200 and no core)
From FFWD:
"OK...you're the type that always wants the baddest piece of performance component out there. We can give that to ya! This head combines all the above Levels and adds two words... EXTREME FLOW! This head sports a full competition port job that uses 1mm larger over stock STAINLESS STEEL valves. Features "D-shaped" exhaust ports as well as the divider walls thinned to achieve a flow of nearly 300 CFM through each port! "
So... that's why my o-ring head is for sale.
