Ok I have been having issues w/ my tranny (420a engine) and I just put it back up after looking for the noise it was making. I didn’t do anything to it just opened it up to see if any of the bearings showed any signs of wear. I didn't find anything and I took out my LSD and put back in my stock diff (thought that might be making the noise)
I know how to install and seal the tranny (done it MANY times before this) so it wasn’t my first attempt.
Anyway,
It started normal and the engine idled normal. I backed out of the garage and into the street, again everything normal. I put it in first and drove slowly down to the end of the street. I stopped at the sign and put it in neutral to see if everything was good. Everything seamed fine so I put it into first to turn and all the sudden you hear a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR (gears grinding) I quickly put it in neutral and the noise goes away. I try first again and it makes the same noise. I can put it in gear but when I lift the clutch pedal that is when the gears grind. It did it in all gears even reverse so I shut it down. I didn’t just let it grind I let off as soon as it made the noise, I just wanted to see if it was any other gears. Well I couldn’t drive it back so I pushed it all the way back to my house (in neutral) once I got it back in the garage I tried it again. This time it goes into gear (all of them) and when I let off the clutch it engages like it should BUT the car doesn’t move. The Speedo even reads the speed but nothing else happens, no grinding, wining, clunking or anything. So the car goes into its gears and the ecu reads load like it was in gear but the axles don’t turn (new axles by the way)
What do you think is broken in it? The diff is turning obviously because the car is reading its speed. The shifter forks should be ok because it goes into gear?
I guess I will get to take it down again.....
Fun.
Brian
