What does tire size matter if everybody has to abide by that rule?

The tire size matters in this case... if you are limited to 8.5" of tread (215's) the only people that will get good traction are us awd'ers :) 4x215 = good traction 2x215= you best have a good dual stage boost controller :)

And that's bad why?
I'm sure they will adjust the rules if the AWD cars start to just completely dominate but we'll have to see. Import drag racing is changing very rapidly and the rules can't keep up.

RWD with slicks? Would that be able to compete with AWD if they are still only 8.5 inches wide?

I'm not aware of slicks being that good at 215mm in width (8.5") remember it's tread size. And I thought it said DOT tires only... no slicks. When it comes down to it, for a rwd or fwd to get traction to equal ours they really need to run 30"+ slicks... Granted they have a better power loss ratio then we do since we drive more tires but there is always that balance between being able to take the loss of traction and make it up 1/2 way down the strip... Awww the simplicity of driving a vehicle with traction....

tube frame would be nice, but since i dont have the money for that kind of project i think i'll just put her fat ass on a diet. i already cut out the bumpers, all the dampening material and back seats. really cant think of much else to take out.
but i think your right on the AWDs have an advantage even on skinnies :p

I think those aren't allowed in Pro/Am.
