View Full Version : Project 130 has begun
What is project 130?
My attempt to put the Eclipse into 130's at the end of the 1/4 mile without stripping it. It weighs in at 3420 (give or take).
Limitations:
1) No weight reduction
2) Nitto 450 tires
3) 105 octane
4) No more than 24 psi of boost
5) No more than a 55 shot of N2o (if any is needed)
I'm doing this in phases:
Phase 1 - Install the stage IV head, and see what gains (or losses) are made based on airflow numbers.
Phase 2 - Install new FMIC, repeat testing
Phase 3 - Install new 3" blow through MAF, repeat testing
Phase 4 - Install 6 bolt 2.3L stroker bottom end, repeat testing
Note worthy items to date:
1) One of the welds on my Venom intake has cracked, so I have to weld that up
2) I have acquired a "spare" transmission :)
If all goes according to plan, Phase 4 will be completed in late March or early April.

FUCK YA!!
thats the first thing i thought of when i saw this..
Where are you getting a blow through mass?? i take it you are placing that after the turbo/ intercooler?? right ?
MARK
The pistons arrived, so it's off to the machine shop next week for the block work.
The MAFT and 3" MAF are here.
Still waiting on the FMIC and new clutch to show up.
So far, no major snags.

The fmic is here:

Are you going to run it as is?

Is that the LS1 maf? I may be doing that sometime later this year on our '90.

Now that's sexy
You know that you can't get any airflow with that there cardboard covering everything up Hal?! ;) Looks nice.
Is the blow thru MAF already installed in that pic or is that it sitting on the exh mani? I'm thinking about this blow thru MAF as well. I'm having a very hard time trying to see a bad point to it. The only con I can think of is that maybe the programming/data part might not be quite right.
I assume you got the 3.5" MAF Hal? ;)
I think I'll wait to hear your opinions on it after you start tinkering with it before I do it though. I'd trust your opinions and observations. So get her boosting and rolling!
The 4th pic shows it installed in the upper i/c.
Because I'm doing a blow thru, I went with the 3" MAF.
If I was going to do a draw thru, I'd go with the 3.5
I should finish up the install tomorrow. If the weather is nice I'll probably do some "testing" this weekend.

Good point on the 3" in the uicp, that makes sense to me.
I thought that was it in the uicp in that 4th pic. Looks cool, but kind of odd. I just hope it works as good as "promised."
Got a question for you Hal...
There's so much crap in the "other threads" about this unit out there that it gives me a headache.
How does this MAF work in conjunction with larger than stock injectors? Or would you just leave the s-afc in place for that?

The vendors covered this explicitly in a thread that I found at DSMtalk. ;)

Looks like your IC hangs awefully low.
Rob
It does look like it, but only because there isn't an I/C pipe going across the top like the Apex core had.
It's wider, thicker, and taller, but it's no "lower" than the apexi core was.

Dear lord, where have -I- been. Looks great Hal!!!
I had no idea you were making such progress so quickly.
The blowthrough looks good too, what type is that thing, Karmen?
;)
I can't imagine how fast that thing is going to be. I'm still talking about that ride, LOL. I'm really surprised you haven't gone to a nitrogen cooling side mount though. haha Or at least a water/air intercooler. I still think you should just say screw it, and pull the interior. Nothing......NOTHING would ever touch it on the street. I'm even 3550 pounds with me and the cage.
I want a ride!! (pulls ticket from dispenser)

You haven't seen the clutch have you:

I'm a little behind schedule, due to the weather and work.
Looks like the motor will head to the machine shop this week or early next.
Looking like a late april install.

I'm up for a friendly street race when we're both done if you are Hal :) I'd like to see that clutch in action anyway... you wouldn't mind if I came over and proposed to it would you?
Cool - good luck Hal. I wanna drive the car down the strip a few times, ok? :) :)

Holy shit, what kind of clutch is that Hal?
I gotta have one....... Drooooooooooooooooooool
Rob
It's a Power Train Technology clutch, twin disc, purchased from Auto Moto Sports.
www.automotosports.com
It's a limited production item.
Hal
The bottom is in the machine shop :)
The only thing left to do is to convert the radiator hoses
to -20 A/N.
