well dammit...
Pulling the head last night on the awd was a pain in the ass... damn exhaust manifold was stuck on the turbo stud... but managed to get head and manifold up enough to get a wrench inbetween the manifold and the turbo to remove the manifold which had a stud back out (i know better then breaking) but while unbolting the turbo one of the damn bolts broke (close to the surface) so now i have to hit that with penitrating lube and extract it... but here is the damage on my new (used) dsm...
all of the valves impacted, one major bend on the #2 cyl the rest nearly close completely... like dings on the pistons but nothing bad... some rubbing evident on the cyl walls but not major (can still see cross thatching) the rubbing is on all cyl intake and exhaust sides of the cyl's. directly intersecting the pin if you drew a line.
the valve cover is finaly clean (took 5 hours to get clean to a sparkle) involved using degreaser, tooth brush, tons of water and when it was near clean i ran it through the dish washer 3x with.
Today, i have to go get 2 9mmx1.25 nuts for the fwd because my father lost them (if you dont know what these are they are the connecting rod cap nuts... kinda important) once i get these i can torqe everything down in the bottom end put the oil pan on and drop the motor today.
Also i have to go to Western to drop off the awd's head for 1mm over valve grinding and assembaly (after cleaning) The awd has 125k miles on it cylinders are still very good but the engine bay is sooo messy... arround the power steering res. there is almost a inch of sand... lots of evidense of oil leaks in the past so once i get it running and degrease the buggar i get to trace oil leaks... but hey so far here is the total project cost:
$1000 (car)
$363 (head machining and assembaly)
$130 (Gaskets and T-Belt Tensioner)
$500 (Valves - allready had them so they dont really count)
$40 (K&N)
_________
$2033 (For every thing, not to shabby, and when i decide to rebuilt the car thats just another $250 cause the cyl's are in great condition) ok sorry for the long post...
