Had the intake pipe off this weekendand noticed something odd. One of the compressor blades is all mangled up. WTF? How could this have happened.....it looks like a tiny rock hit it but that is impossible? My question though.....the last few weeks it hasn't really been holding boost too well. It will drop off a psi or two at the top of the gear but it still spools awesome and makes whatever boost I set it too.....could this be because of my messed up compressor wheel? Also, i am "fairly" confident I don't have any boost leaks. This isn't majorly affecting the car....I still ran a 13.5 yesterday, but the psi drop off is bugging the hell out of me!

Thanks
Mitch

what turbo?

what boost?

what boost controller?

how is the controller connected?

All of these things play into fall off.

Big T-28
17 psi-pump
20 psi-race
dejon tool MBC

I haven't changed anything but this recently started happening.....then I saw my compressor wheel. It seems like if it is still spooling fine then that isn't the problem......just wondering if somebody knew something about it I maybe overlooking!

The big T28 will boost to 22psi without the gate opening but can only hold 17-18psi max at this altitude. This is a known problem because of it's smaller housing. Mandy's BT28 has no WG actuator hooked up and it will spike to 22 and almost imediately fall back to 17. Standard problem. If you want higher boost levels with the same CFM output get a B16G

so no worries about this bit of damage to my compressor wheel then!

Thanks

Oh no, definately worry. You don't want any damage on your compressor wheel or your turbine... although I will say turbine damage is far more common than compressor.

Any ideas on how this could have happened? Or what effects it may end up having?

well, to start your assembly is no longer balanced... second if anything else breaks off it will send it into your intercooler leaving chunks in there for you to get out later or possibly freeze your turbo etc... it's not as bad as a chipped turbine wheel but still I would worry about it...

How much are you trying to get for your 16g? Is it the large one, and is it ported or clipped?

I have ABSOLUTELY NO shaft play.....so thats a good sign! Nothing has broken off....its just a little dinged up. Hopefully nothing bad happens anytime soon. I've been thinking about a new turbo anyway but I don't want to be rushed to do it.
