View Full Version : Valve Seals -> Blue Smoke?

For the past few days, I've noticed the car has been acting up. If I gave it a little bit of gas at idle or when letting off the gas, the exhaust gives off a bit of sputter noise. Tonight I noticed that I'm starting to spit out blue smoke from the muffler and when I pulled each plug to check wear and for oil, none were covered in oil, but after pulling plug #2, smoke began to come out of the well.. so I'm assuming this is a valve seal problem? Or what is it? What's the best way to go about replacing this?

It's possible it might be the turbo, but I'd say you're probably dead on the money with valve seals. The head should be pulled so you can replace them... I'd do a leakdown test.

Whatever, anyways... anyone have a ballpark figure of what it costs to replace the seals?

LoL!!! That sounded like he thought I was insulting him...
The seals themselves usually aren't too expensive... but labor can be. If you can get the head off you'll save yourself a butt load... call western engine and ask them how much it would cost for them to put new ones in.

$200 plus the cost of valves plus shipping (and you can get 1mm over too for this price) through a guy i know in portland, salmi used to go to him for machine work...
