Well Hal and I took the talon out on E-470 Sunday. In my mind I'm thinking something is either going to blow off or some sort of fluid is going to gush out. We did about 10+ test pulls and three test launches. The car feels amazingly strong. Got some minor things left to change and the car is ready to see the track weds.

Just some variables from the test drive.

BOOST: 27PSI
FUEL: 105
EGT's: Under 1400
A/F: 12.0:1
KNOCK: NONE
DAMAGE: NONE (great i just jinxed myself)

Anyone wanna race? :D

As my brother would say. Sick and Wrong. I would love to see what kind of numbers that would pull both on the dyno and at Bandi. GIMME A RIDE!!!!! :D Now tune that thing for a steady 5 count of knock and <1600 EGT's and it'll probably PUUUUUULLLLLLL like no other.

If i wanted to impress on a dyno, i'd buy a supra!

I will certainly try!
You know me though, i'd rather have 400hp from 3k to 7k than a quick spike to 700 at 6k.
I'd like to go again and do some more tuning.

Well we spent Monday - Yesterday fighting what looks like an Ignition problem. The entire fuel system has been disected to look for any issues, The IC system had a couple pin hole size leaks but that was it.

From the logs with the 7cm housing the car is flowing about 370 grams/second which is ~3.25 grams/rev. I swapped the 8cm housing in to eliminate any back pressure issues and the airflow went up to 390.4 grams/second which is 3.49 grams/rev. Everything else looks ok but its definately sounding like its ignition related. Hopefully my new parts will be in early next week so I can put this issue to rest.

BTW the airflow numbers are from 27psi pulls with a stock head and HSK 272 264 cams  .

I doubt I'll be at the track next week since my other car is going in the body shop. After it gets out then I'll be looking for more track time.

Well, turbo lag shouldn't affect the peak HP output, right?

I'll be the first to admit, I'm in WAY over my head right now...but it oughta be fun!

When are you thinking of doing this? I need to nail down my upgrade schedule, as I have quite a few things I need to get done before the IDRC race (hopefully).

Does a borrowed car count? I did have a hand in building it. I drove it to Bandimere for the last import event! Uh yeah, it's mine! *for the day*

Ok. Prolly not.

I'll put money down that my truck makes more torque though! :p

Is that an AEM EMS I see? Did you help tune with it?

Jason
08-18-2003, 03:09 PM
It is indeed an AEM.

Redline in Ft. Collins did the set-up. Ed and I didn't have time to play with itm so he had them do it. It is NOT plug and play. He's had a bunch of problems with fuel maps, idle, stalling... Every once in a while the AEM needs to be "restarted" as the car won't start. *shrug*

The car goes like stink.

Bummer, that doesn't bode well for me. I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there (hopefully in the next 3 weeks).

where is there an awd dyno in colorado?

Gonzo
08-18-2003, 06:08 PM
The dyno we used is at Autosportwerks (near the intersection of US287 and US36 in Broomfield); it's a Dynapack. There's one other up north somewhere, but the name escapes me at the moment.

sweet! do you just call them to set up a time? how much an hour? they have a wideband right? thanks for the info

Gonzo
08-18-2003, 06:19 PM
Yes, they have a wideband. Erron worked out a group deal for us last time I went; I got dragged into it because a few people copped out. It turned out to be both informational and worthwhile, though. I think I actually gained more power than anyone else on the dyno--my car was super-rich because I had kept my pump gas settings when I threw in the race gas...

A whopping 279whp... Not bad for a 14b, though.

If you want to use ASW's wideband you need a bung welded into your downpipe. However some of us have widebands installed in our cars :D

I've heard that the AEM unit has a ton of issues. Lots of bugs to work out.
